Jake Niall at least acknowledges in the last paragraph that he'll probably be wrong.

I know how predictable Malthouse found us because he made the same moves to counter our moves out of defence every time. I am hoping the coaching staff will find something new this year. Remember, in AFL you only have about a five year window of opportunity and then you have to rebuild for a new campaign of five years.

Horse has introduced a more flexible game but I still see us turning back to the old shut it down when things get a bit tough. We need to counter punch not shut down as that is the modern game. We have the weapons to do this now and should use them and if we do then we will be in the mix.

Malthouse was a bit condescending of Horse saying he was a nice bloke but the game plan is old hat. The meaning of this is nice blokes don't win premierships. Maybe Horse will get a bit fired up and motivated to bring something new to the table and the park.
I totally agree with Malthouse as I am the only Swans supporter in a group of Geelong/ Pies supporters. It annoyed the crap out of me how the Pies regularly not only outplayed us but outcoached us. The reason why we nearly beat them last time (Nearly is still not good enough) is that we got LJ to kick out over the press and tried something new.Well done Horse. Otherwise Mick is right. Our style is still too predictable .I really think the coaching staff know this and have recruited to give us more variation .We went for pace with Jetta not a pocket rocket who could break a line like Buchanan or Moore. Likewise Rohan and Ritchie Cunningham will give us a different mix to change things. White's failure has really hurt us but Reid has been a great success . We need to find a FF and whip the ball down there with pace counterpunching with goals. That style will work compared to trying to choke the opposition .Thats hard to do when you can't catch them.

If I recall correctly, our pressure was pretty good that night, too - to the point that Daisy was so far off his game he was too scared to take a shot at goal.

It was almost the night we've all been waiting for since the one point victory in 2005.

Back on the topic of this thread, I think we'd have to beat Collingwood again before we could call ourselves legitimate contenders.

And for that reason, especially if we perform well during the course of the season, Round 20 should be an absolutely massive game.

Whilst I agree with what you say, beeting Geelong last year still didn't give us any legitimacy amongst the footy media as all the press regarded it as the Cats having an off day rather then us being the better side.
I think we could go through the season undefeated (oh to dream) and we still wouldn't be considered legitimate premiership threats.

If we manage to rise above mid-table this year I'm sure KJ will be one of the reasons for it. The signs so far are really g ood.

What I saw on Friday night was a team of young fellas without all of the usual suspects, freaking well fighting it out to the very last moment, and NOT giving up. Kirky lives!

Im expecting much the same finish as in previous years, 5th - 7th. I dont think we'll crack into the 4 unfortuneately, not yet. I just saw the malthouse comments and I too agree that we need to change things up rather quickly. It is too predictable and the game plan IMO is a 'safe' game plan that allows us to mostly beat the lower to mid teams whilst still jagging the odd win out of the top 4 (cats last year). I cant help but think this is because we always need to be competitive because of the fickle sydney market and cannot experiment further which may result in a fall in ladder position, it just seems to me making the 8 is enough for the club at the moment.

It would be nice if we could boast a second player to have been in two winning grand final combinations.

we certainly can beat any team on our day which is evident in the geelong match. our core of players is very good and we have alot of depth. one of my worries is our forward line. apart from reid we still dont have that absolute gun fullforward i.e bradshaw who can kick 5 or 6 a game with no worries. hopefully horse lines up morton or walsh there. my instructions to walsh would be to stay in the goal square lead out and take every grab with his pace and strength.

I sort of agree with what your saying, if we could find an "absolute gun fullforward" like that it would be great.

Although the Swans might have some difficulty locating a player capable of meeting your expectations of a "no-worries" 5-6 goals per game . . . . . for a start we'd have to rule Tony Lockett out, his average was less than 5 a game. What a complete list-clogging hack he was!!!

                        Thanks for the giggle swanspant12

hahah maybe i was going a bit overboard! but bradshaw was the perfect FF if it wasnt for his knee injury. Extremely strong, good mark and kick and added that extra 3 or 4 goals a game. fevola would have been perfect, i dont care about his off field problems if he kicks a bag everyweek he has done his job
