    Swans Free Agents

    Unrestricted
    Jarred Moore
    Jude Bolton

    Restricted
    Jarrrad (sic) McVeigh

    That is all.

There'll be little interest in Moore and Bolton and it's a little surprising that McVeigh hasn't signed a new deal yet.

Not worried at all. We rate them higher than any other club would. Bolton only has a year or two left in him. Bulldog won't be of any interest to other clubs for lack of pace. Macca, well he's unlikely to want to go anywhere, and no one else will probably have him either.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Well I agree with Macca not wanting to be at any other club but why would you think that other clubs wouldn't like to have him?

Interesting that Jude's not in the top 25% of player payments.

The other question is who we should be targetting. With the salary cap concession we have and a lack of superstars on big contracts we should be well placed for free agency. How would Stevie J look in red and white?

Mainly because he doesn't get his tyres pumped up by all the Victorian press like Goodes, Reid or Mumford would. He's a hard worker and does his stuff quietly - plus he did take an inordinately long time to live up to the potential as a top 10 draft pick. Perhaps more accurately it is that not many clubs would be interested in his type of player for the money it would cost to get him as a restricted free agent. We would pay more to retain him that other clubs would want to spend to get him.

It wouldn't startle me if he's not, but how did you come to the conclusion he isn't?

most those blokes are too old to be moving clubs, imagine if we could get Mark McVeigh, Ben Reid and Heath Shaw, 3 sets of brothers in one team, of course only 2 of them on the list, just a thought. Wojo for pace and size wld be a good buy

Travis Cloke would look pretty good in red and white. As would Salopek and/or Pearce from Port. I didn't see anyone else on the list that was too appealing outside those 3.

                    Liz: I'm wrong actually.

Any "restricted" player, we know they're in the top 25%.

But "unrestricted" also, which I didn't realise, means players who've been at the club for ten seasons regardless of salary and are coming out of contract for a second time since season 8. Jude's probably in this category rather than the "paid outside the top 25%" category and we can therefore make no inferences about his pay.

I doubt that coaches, recruiters and list managers would be influenced by the media to be honest mate. Judging by the attention he gets when he plays I think Macca is very highly respected by opposition coaches.

He would be very valuable to a developing team with a bit of room to move in the salary cap.

But I daresay it's probably about a lot more than just $$ to him and his family and can't see him moving for a bit of extra cash

He'd look like an ageing forward, approaching 30 years old, with dodgy knees ankles and groins.
Great player, who by next year will be well past his best.

I like Wojo (probably mainly because I went to high school with him and he was a good guy, unlike Leigh Brown, who was a dick), but he's probably only got the one season left in him and he has a dodgy foot - even Geelong can't say when he'll play again. He also has a young family, which he's unlikely to uproot to maybe play one more year. Despite two premiership medallions, he couldn't command the money to make it with his while

goddard, heath shaw, cloke....quality and any one of those guys would add experience and class. The dickhead factor puts a doubt on shaw but in a new city and with rhyce in the same club i'm less worried.
i still have my eyes on bed reid in future years...that would be a dream come true giving us the Reid bookends! The affect of Nathan Buckley on the magpie group will be interesting. If he's the same coach he was as a captain then it has the potential to disenfranchise the player group. Magpie land has an interesting few years ahead.
