I also like the idea of Reid at ff.he will beat most full backs on the lead and won't have to kick too far from goal. Let's try lrt at chf.
Forward Structure

I wonder if the poor timing of ROK's injury may see him start off the season playing deeper in the forward line as he builds up his match fitness? He's still a strong mark, has played forward before- and if nothing else it'd remove some of the poor delivery into the forward line for a few rounds.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

we definetly need more structure. Although we have a great record at recruiting and gifting players a second chance, i just dont feel morton and tommy walsh are going to do the job. Reid is going to be one of the best forwards in the game, but we need more stars to really push for a birth in the top 4.LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

Some comments which are interesting but with which i completely disagree. Goodies is NEVER as good for us forward of the ball as what he is on it. He should alway play on it and rest forward IMO. LRT is simply a very poor forward and white is every bit as good in the ruck as LRT. I like Everett as a lead up forward as he has good hands and is a good kick notwithstanding yesterday.
I think we are better off acknowledging that key forwards don't grown on trees and that we must manufacture goals - which actually includes crowding the forward line sometimes so we crumb some more goals. One of the problems we actually have is that our hff play near the ball a lot which means their Blackman has a five meter break on them when the long kick goes in. I would actually like to see more of our players getting to the contest with a view to winning the ball an kicking at goal. We frequently get there to effect a tackle.Comment

Here's a piece on Sam Reid in today's SMH:
A couple of kilos on and a couple of seconds off, and Reid's raring to go
To mention him in the same breath as Lockett and Hall...it would be great if he develops into the gun forward we need, but whether he ends up in that sort of company, I just don't know about that...Comment

I would say an assumption. Sydney has always developed players for FF as the SCG is so small. Generally up here we don't need a true CHF but when we play on the bigger grounds we do. I think they are developing him as a key forward able to play CHF on the big grounds and FF on the small.Comment

Play either Pyke, White or LRT at full forward/second ruckman. Mumford will also rest there. This player will generally be subbed off. We need a second medium tall like Spangher or Everitt across the full forward line. Reid at CHF. The remaining fwd spots to be used on McGlynn, Rohan, Okeefe and possibly Cunningham. Then you have McVeigh and Bolton spending time there as well. Leave Goodes on the ball.Comment

No he didn't Di. I don't think we have played a true CHF at the SCG since Luffy. He sometimes played up the ground on the bigger grounds but not at the SCG. He played a true FF there. He was allowed a lot of space to roam but still designated FF.Comment

I think the Forward line has potential if we get smart. Lamb, TDL, Nipper, Benny, Bolts, ROK, Harry, Spang, Macca, Morton, Mitchell, Walsh, LRT, Shaw and of course Goodsie, Mummy and Reid. We have the cattle we now have to get them to market. There are enough names and talent there to build a very solid forward line. Lamb can kick goals and is very cleaver, the same with TDL and Nipper. I think Nipper gets stage fright and it is all psychological with him because he has the talent. Harry is proving he is a goal sneak in the vein of a Nick Davis but can kick even longer than Nick. Spang will give us the extra tall and he was very effective last year.Comment
