our forward line is a big worry. we drafted morton on the basis of being a small forward yet hes an emergency? if we want to challenge the top four we have to improved our forward line and our structure. apart from that looks like a good team! cmon SWANNNNNNIES
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.
Devon Smith on Nick Smith. Pity GWS Reid wasn't playing.
Devon Smith is sooooooooo Western Sydney, if he was a Swan he'd be Berliner Smith, or perhaps Bologna Smith.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
I know it's only a team sheet, but it really doesn't seem we've done enough to address our forward line issues.
I doubt very much if the players will line up in those positions. Let's face it they never do. For a start I doubt if Bolts is going to line up on the field after not playing last week. Secondly, Mal played half back in the game against Suns and I don't see why they wouldn't play him there again. Just don't let him kick off, great field kick, not for kick offs. Everitt played the whole pre-season in the forward line and I can't see them chucking him back now. Hannas will play on the wing he made a pretty good comeback last week after being a little rusty when he first came on. His second half was great.
I never pay attention to who is named in what position - apart from ruck, a few KPPs and a couple of onballers, as far as other positions the rest is moot in footy these days.
Odds-on that Harry/Ritchie will start with the vest though....
Amazed but excited that Gazza is in!! Still won't be surprised if he's a last minute withdrawal but would love to see him get his goal count up and running early.
And would be really delighted if Harry could score at least a couple against the club that could've had him. (Insert evil laugh here.)
Ah hah hah hah haaaaaaaas!
Very excited the Rooster is up and ready. I'm excited.
Given the cattle, the forward line as written is not that bad.LRT played well there in the practise match and Reid is better closer to goal. GWS will have trouble containing both of them even if we bomb long. I am happy with Goodes now he is one of our most experienced older players influencing the game from CHF. Sure he may play better in the centre or on the ball but we now have other players who can do this too. The flanks and pockets had better play well as there are quite a few players who could snare their spot if they don't perform. So ,its not a great forward line but its hardly rubbish if in actual fact this is where they end up playing (which I doubt!)
THat's a very cool picture accompanying that article. Love the long face on Horse.
Well most horses do have long faces.
In all seriousness, I only have two concerns with this team.
Firstly can our forward line kick 20-30 goals? Lets face it we must start this season with a good percentage. To me it looks a little short of firepower (and will the Swans goalkicking yips continue?) It's a pity Morton/TDL/Lamb weren't up to it, lets hope McGlynn/Harry have a day out.
And
Secondly, these new teams often have a great deal of speed, especially with Rhys missing? I have no doubt out hard nut midfielders with go through the infants if they catrch them, question is can we catch them?
Obviously Game On has arrived. Its 8.06 by my watch, and for the last hour all I have done is read AFL footy.....really I ought to be reading the front pages of newspaper websites.....
