Now CJK, that's a sponsorship promotion I'd gladly accept.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

I gamble most days. Reading this thread, you'd think I was doing something illegal. Yes I know how big a problem it is but there's plenty out there who gamble and don't have a problem. Same as alcohol, food etc. People who don't gamble clearly think that anyone who does has a problem.

I gamble regularly and I am a little uncomfortable with the Swans-linked Tom Waterhouse promotions.

At least it isn't a pokies-filled club, though. That's where most of the real problem gambling is.

I don't particularly like it either. I realise that the money is probably hard to turn down from the club's perspective but I'm not a fan of sports betting, or gambling generally for that matter. One difference it has made is that I have had to explain it all to my son, who sees the odds come up on TV during matches when we're watching. I don't especially want my kids looking at punting odds on the big screen when we're at the footy. Sure, they'll make their own decisions when they're old enough, but they should be able to just watch the game for the sake of the game.

Additionally, like it or not, gambling attracts 'less than desirable' elements. It brings opportunities for corruption from players, coaches, agents and officials. Its ongoing promotion continues to entrench the belief that it's ok, and probably increases the helplessness for thos who are caught in its grip.

Then, less objectively, there's the Waterhouse name, and those smug ads dripping with a sense of entitlement and privilege. Not happy.

Many people like yourself can gamble within their means (I'm assuming this is correct), but there are many that others that can't.
The AFL last year were trying to reduce the amount of live promotion of gambling, such as display the odds at every qtr of the game.
I think it's more about responsible promotion of sponsors.
I know St Kilda is sponsored by Centrebet, I just thought the swans would be above that.
But then it's a gamble they were willing to take.

I do understand that but I'm of the opinion that at some stage, you have to help yourself. Everyone wants someone to blame for their problems in this world.

I don't think the sponsorship of a footy club is going to make any difference to problem gambling, positive or negative.

Why would you think the Swans would be above that? We're just a footy club like any other which relies on sponsorship to survive.

I would argue that alcohol is just as big a problem. Should all alcohol sponsorship be removed from society as well? I just don't understand the notion that we should be 'above' something. Why?

Have no problem with others gambling away their money, stupidity comes in all forms and sizes.

BUT i have had enough of gambling getting in the way of watching sports for the last 2 years. I don't have to sit through endless gambling ads, don't have to sit through commentators announcing odds, nor do i have to put up with LOUD ads before, during, half time and after the game when i go to a ground. Nor do I have to put up with gamblers telling me i am a wowser because i dont want to put up with any of the factors i mentioned.

So sad that the swans have decided to take this guys sponosrship $.

Asolutely, Agree on all those points, except the second line.
I believe they can make a difference.
The thing is, like any advertising, people now have another easy avenue to squander their hard earned.
