It works better if you say 'I guarantee you will finish with a small fortune'.

Just think, you could have given yourself 2 claps then....

I could edit, but I think my point is made

      Agree with the reword.

I notice Tom has quietly disappeared from the club webpage.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Sure the adds are a bit in yr face but he has just as much right to sponsor the Swans as anyone else. The reaction, too me is a bit over the top. Its no different to when Star city, you know the big gambling joint at Pyrmont, were the shorts sponsor a few years back before the refurb. I don't recall any hoo had back then or is it selective memory? He also may be just as passionate about our club as we are - or isn't he allowed go be that either? Should we also remove all TAB facilities from the Grounds as well? Because hey if Tom has to go then so shouldn't The totes ? bigger problems in the world to worry about than This sponsorship.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I don't think the sponsorship of a footy club is going to make any difference to problem gambling, positive or negative.

Why would you think the Swans would be above that? We're just a footy club like any other which relies on sponsorship to survive.

I would argue that alcohol is just as big a problem. Should all alcohol sponsorship be removed from society as well? I just don't understand the notion that we should be 'above' something. Why?
I notice you didn't use cigarettes as an example.

I gamble most days. Reading this thread, you'd think I was doing something illegal. Yes I know how big a problem it is but there's plenty out there who gamble and don't have a problem. Same as alcohol, food etc. People who don't gamble clearly think that anyone who does has a problem.
I don't gamble, but being a Salvo means we have to pick up the pieces after people addicted to gambling (in the same way as alcohol) go beyond what they can afford.

The problem I see with this sponsorship is that the club have taken a stand against gambling by not having poker machines, but will accept gambling money from another source.

Has the club actually taken a stand against poker machines? Didn't Club Swans have them?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                  Yes. Yes please.

Was a cold one a few years ago so decided to watch the last ten minutes of the game from the bar at the bottom of the Nobel. TV in the TAB area was showing horse racing and after I flicked it over to the Swans game was almost ejected from the ground by staff.

Apparently watching the game was a no go as we had to have the horses on for the sad degenerate gamblers.

                  I mean, FFS.

IMHO the issue is not really with gambling in general but more with the association with the Waterhouse name in particular..

Well to those that are that so against the swans having anything to do with gambling then I can assume that none of you bet on the Melbourne cup??? Or buy a scratchie or put in for lotto because it's all a form of gambling. Waterhouse may be a terrific young man for all we known and shouldn't be judged by the sins of his father. As much as we love to think that the Swans are the pure Angels of the AFL who can do no wrong well it's time to be realistic. It's a business that relies mainly on sponsorship. Waterhouse isn't some outlaw bikie gang type . Of should we go with hillsong church then? (and They aren't perfect either)

That's not the point. The point is, how much are they offering (so to speak)?

I've been trying to convince the licensee directors of a certain golden arched food chain, who previously sponsored the pies(before they got bet greedy) to throw some money our way but then that may not be acceptable to the masses here either.

I don't smoke and I hate smoke blown in my face. I don't gamble and I hate the odds being pushed on the news, in the paper and before and during the game. Association with the tab is bad enough but with a bookmaker (even one wearing an Armani suit) is even worse. If people smoke or gamble then good for them but me and my family don't need or want it.
