    Is Birdy our next Kirky?

Is Birdy our next Kirky ?

I mean more in role on the field and in spirit.............the guy has snuck under the radar a little last year and is going about his business with out too many plugs

I think some thought went in to allocating him Number 14. He continues to improve.

      John Updike said it all.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

No. The hole left by Kirky will , in time , be filled by Luke Parker.

In 30-odd years of support, I've seen very skilled Swans, strong Swans, tough Swans, courageous Swans, this could go and on. Kirk is irreplaceable. Bird may go on to make his own legend at the club. Parker surely will. But neither will be the 'next Kirky' (IMHO).

I think Craig Bird will become our next Craig Bird.

Have always liked the kid and as long as his body cooperates we'll all get to see the best of him in the next few years.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

According to Brian Taylor, he's the next Nick Smith!

He's not tall, he's pretty solid but not especially powerful looking, he's certainly not that quick (but he's not slow either, he's quicker than he looks) and he can't kick the ball a mile. When he talks he's bashful and doesn't like the spotlight.

So how does he succeed? He has a quick brain, he knows where to find the ball, he has lightning fast hands and feet and is naturally evasive with an amazing side step. He can take a knock and he knows where the goals are, making a habit of kicking multiple goals in a game. In short, he's an old fashioned footy player. For those of us born not to look like Adonis, we enjoy his successes vicariously.

My favourite player at the Swans.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Whilst I don't particuarly fit into your criteria, I do certainly enjoy his success as well.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Nah Luke has dibs on the hole that will one day be left by Jude...

Birdie is himself and he will make his own history. Very talented player. I saw the intra and it was obvious even then he was in really good touch.

I sort of know a guy that played with him a little bit in u18s. This guy now plays VFL, so he's no slouch. Apparently Bird was just on another level entirely. I've always had high hopes for him, and his form this year, after a rare injury-free preseason, seems to be reflecting his natural ability, as well as a fair bit of hard work on his fitness.

One thing he does need to work on is his disposal going forward. He still has a tendency to blast away and be wasteful (but he's hardly alone there). He's a good decision maker in general play, and his kicking skills are much improved from a couple of years ago, but he needs to make better decisions going inside 50.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

He is beginning to grow on me. Watched the replay of the last quarter and he seems to be able to get the ball out of heavy traffic better than most. Bird may soon become the word.
