    Forward line

Watching West Coast and their 3 big forwards last night has increased my view that we lack enough true forwards, especially tall/big ones. Yes it was hardly a high scoring game and they didn't kick a goal in a half, but the structure is awesome and tough to counter.

Reid, a young kid, is really our only target (tall or small). It's not enough. Compare that to Darling, Lynch, Kennedy, Hill and sometimes NicNat.

The rest of our big forward targets are a mish mash of players who aren't given long enough there to do much damage. Goodes is (and should be) predominantly a midfielder. LRT is a backman who is expected to be a forward and 2nd ruckman. White is still learning and is also expected to be the 2nd ruckman.

I feel that it's extremely urgent we develop a specialist full forward. The options must come from White, Walsh or Pyke. I would go with White first with no time in the ruck. Walsh to be the long term project.

TDL and Spangher are the other 2 specialist forwards we need. This would give us a forward line looking something like this:

    TDL White McGlynn
    ROK Reid Spangher

This then leaves LRT or Pyke to be a specialist 2nd ruckman who can play forward (or even back) when resting.

You just brought in two players, so who would you drop?

It's not a case of dropping anyone in particular. Injury, suspension and form means that there will always be someone out.

If we did have a full list then it would mean more pressure on midfielders for spots, rather then just slotting them up forward as currently happens.

The forward line isn't going to change much this year, we do however need 2 key forwards as u say, but I doubt we'll see the old fashioned FF/CHF setup anytime soon. I do think we can play White and LRT/Pyke in the same team, but not Mumford and Seaby, so we will have to go with the best option for second ruck. I f we do that we can keep White in the forward line, we probably need to carry him for a season to develop him as a senior player. If he doesn't improve after a good run in the seniors we probably should delist him and look to the draft

Ressies today Morton 7, Walsh 5, TDL 5. Could this be the forward line of the future?

We seem to be manufacturing goals reasonably well but it's hard to tell how this will work against top sides especially on narrow grounds like Subiaco and Kardinia Park.

Seemed to work pretty well last year, won both games if memory serves
