    Are we contenders in 2012?

Or is it too early to tell?

Obviously 4-0 is a bloody great start, and you couldn't ask for more at this stage. We have some quality to return : Goodes, Mumford, Smith, LRT. We also have some guys hopefully starting to knock on the door with good performances in the 2s - TDL, Walsh, Cunningham, Bulldog etc. I still don't think we've put together a full 4 quarter effort yet, and have some improvement to come.

First step, beat Hawthorn. That'll be a good way to gain a bit of credibility. Thankfully it is not at the MCG where we've been done by them a few times. Beating Essendon away is always a good yardstick of our season. Injuries might be a worry down the track - we seem to be losing a player every week.

There was an article a while back saying that we're a good chance of reaching the bye with a 10-1 or 9-2 record.. I was a bit doubtful at that time, but I'm starting to believe we can do it!!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Ooh yeah. Feeling good about the cohesiveness of this 2012 team. It will be injuries that cruel us.

PS: I don't want to jinx us, but I have a good feeling about this season. The attitude of the group is good, and with a bit of luck, who knows. Let's see how ww feel in about 15 weeks time!

We're definitely in the top 5 or 6 teams.
And certainly at this stage, it seems the difference between the supposed top 4 teams (Blues, Cats, Hawks, Pies) and the next 4 or 5 isn't so big after all.
But really we need to wait until at least the halfway mark before any meaningful appraisal can be made.

I think we can be real contenders this year, but it depends a whole lot on luck from here on out. We have the potential to, I believe, beat anyone, but injuries will account for a lot.

if we bring that sort of pressure every week most teams will find it hard to dominate us

Hawks and West Coast are probably the two teams that stand out with contested pressure still and then us I would hazzard a guess are third just ahead of Pies etc

I think Jessie White yesterday was a great example of himself realising how much pressure on the ball and never giving up wins you games more then any other factor !!!!

he was rewarded for that effort yest !!!!

Let's ask the question after the Hawthorn game.

Yeah, travelling and playing a top team at an unknown ground, backing up after a bit of a slog will definitely give us an idea.

I reckon Round 7 will tell us a lot more, as to where we are at.

                          Yup, agree.

If we win that the media will put the Carlton jinx on us.

I'm with you Scott. It's these type of games that we have played inexplicably badly the last few years and that the genuine contenders don't let slip and also ends up costing us at the pointy end of the season.

We've got a very good first half of the draw which can see us 9W-2L by the break. Good to see the boys are locking in the games they need to. We need this as the back half looks a little more challenging.
