    The Swans Way.

Absolutely loved reading this article and it's nice to see someone - particularly someone from the Melbourne print media, acknowledge that tanking isn't necessarily the way to go about trying to win a flag and also that it's not only the flag winning that is important to fans, it's having a team that you know is going to turn up to play each week and give it a red hot go.

I'm not too good on posting links so sorry if this doesn't work.

Appeared not to work...I did a copy of the text string and then a google search for the article. The whole article appeared.

Jewels it works with the hint Erica (?) gave. Cut and paste the url address into Google.

Very good article. Confirms how great the Swans have been at recruiting and the futility of "bottoming out".

Tep, read one paper, read em all, good article though, although Carlton have had some success by bottoming out to get high draft picks, if they don't win a flag this or next year yd have to call that experiment a failure, because Judd wil be 30 and playing forward by then. No, our list manger is a genius

They didn't really make a choice about bottoming out. I'm not sure they ever made a conscious "youth policy and rebuild with draft picks" decision like Melbourne or Richmond. They were just dumb and crashed down for no good reason. They lost all their gun 1990s players and didn't replace them in the early 2000s. Then in 2002 got the wooden spoon, and copped Elliot's dumb financial management as well as some fairly hefty salary cap breach penalties all at once. They also abandoned their home ground around this time, a move I'm not sure was a good one.

Killed them for a good five years.

And no, I don't think its bad!

You join and get 3 months free Internet exposure to the Herald Sun. They are going to start charging after the three months is up. I think it stinks with all the advertising they get.

Why would you even contemplate paying news limited money to read crap?

Its like paying for a tv subscription to ACA or TT.
