The Register is a UK tech news site, so I guess they're more interested in the iPod angle. I agree, it's an odd source! They got it from and link to this Herald Sun article.
I don't know that crowd noise is Sam's problem, but perhaps it can help him to focus on technique.Comment

Wasn't the real story that Cloke actually did take the iPod cure - the Swans are only thinking about it?
If Sam's going to get his own iPod, he should listen to something inspiring. Wagner. AC-DC. The last five minutes of the Nicky D final. The thoughts of Brett Kirk. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

What about the old 'blindfold' technique? Or did he try that one already??
I actually don't think it's the crowd noise/pressure of game day. Unless of course he kicks every goal at training. He seems to have an awkward ball drop which seems to relate to his long arms/legs etc. It just doesn't look completely natural at the moment.

Just on blindfolds, I had a basketball coach that used to make us shoot half a dozen shots from different spots with a blindfold on- I coached Stella junior's u10s basketball team this past season and added it for a bit of fun, just from the free throw line (they play on a closer free throw line with a lower hoop, so it wasn't too mean) every single kid's jumpshot improved from doing it because they had to really concentrate on their technique when their sight was taken away. I think it would be a good thing for Sammy to give a go.Last edited by stellation; 4 May 2012, 10:31 AM.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

As stated his field kicking is tops, and I'm sure he has drilled the correct technique for goals.
I think the noise gets to him, the pressure of the moment and it goes out the window.
So hopefully this settles him in practice, and help him to block and focus.Comment

Unless the iPod will make Reid put his head down (no need to look at the goals), run in straight (he seems pretty good with that), and kick with a straight leg with a good follow through (leg looks pretty loose and seems to come across his body a bit) I don't see it doing too much for him...Comment

Personally, I'd prefer him to work on his kicking for goal than his jumpshot.....Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

It works the same for footy mechanics. My favourite "remove to improve" is having young footy players play a game/do some drills with their favoured hand behind their back- it's one of the best things I've come across as far as a ratio of time versus immediate success, a lot of kids can get their leg swing okay on their non-preferred side and it's the ball drop that can be a problem for them- being forced to use non-preferred hand onto non-preferred foot for 30 minutes pretty consistently improves a kid's non-preferred side kicking. Everyone with a little prodigy at their disposal should give it a go.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
