I'm usually VERY forgiving of our players, but I gave it to him both barrels when he did that. It was just dumb anytime, but at that stage of the game was totally beyond dumb....Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I think I've learned my lesson and will likely never again continually 'suggest' to a player to get a haircut. He nailed some pretty fine shots for goal even while I was giving him those grooming tips, so credit to him. Seems to be coming together well for him (another NSW boy to boot) and another good example to someone like Reid, and even Jesse, that it can take a while but if you keep working at it, things can come together for you.Comment

Reid - hmmm. He did well last year because he was able to run at a pack and launch himself taking his trademark congested grab, typically closer to goal where his yips matter less. This year, opposition teams have him work out, block his space and he can't launch himself. At the same time, he is drawing several defenders, so it works for the team (well, had worked). Could be my imagination, but when he gets it, he seems further out. Some challenges there..... I think he's a better CHF than FF.Comment

But what about the impedement of Reid 30 metres out when he was clearly held when he went for a second effort, which should have been a free on the goal line at a critical time when we had the momentum. Swings and roundabouts but it doesn't excuse dumb play in the backline.Comment

I confess to a bias in favour of shaw over some on this site - but what shaw did is done by virtually every team all the time when there is a two on one situation. Indeed the week before it was the failure of teddy to do the same that led to rioli having the mark of the day. It was bad luck with shaw that it was simply so obvious because it was the fat side of the ground that he was holding and the rest of the field was simply so open so there was no impediment to the viewing and also that he held on for just too long.
The turning point was the first quarter. If we hadn't played kick to the five crows for 25 minutes we wouldn't have needed to come back - what was it something like 15 inside 50s for one goal to five from ten at the other end ?
Anyway that is last weeks game now...Comment

I think I can talk about it now.
No.
I can't.
Not yet.
Still too raw.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

The more I think about this game - and sadly I am still thinking about it - the more I think it will look like a poor loss by the end of the year. Sure, the Crows were very good on the night and may turn out to be a fair side - but when I think of letting Jaensch, Petrenko and Callinan get 8 goals between them, it makes me think something went seriously wrong somewhere...Comment

It's one that got away, that's for sure. Not a bad loss, but it was at home and we should have won.Comment

I got around to watching the last quarter again today (I wanted to see Jetta's goal again). It was pretty tough in there but when we got to within a goal with 9 minutes on the clock, we should have been able to go on with it. I remember on Saturday thinking we will win this from here. The loss of Goodes was critical. We played well. So did Adelaide.Comment

They have been our bogey team for years and lets be honest we were damned lucky that we didn't come up against them in the finals in 05 & 06. Anyway time to move on see what this week brings.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Reidy needs time out; he is obviously carrying and needs time to heal properly. He is still a kid. I think we forget that a lot. A big kid, but a kid nonetheless.
Compare him to Luke Parker, and its kind of weird. There is great big Reid, and much smaller Parker, but Luke has a much more mature body, almost like a 25yo on a 20yo. So I guess we just wait and see. Just because We want it, doesn't make the transition from good to great player any easier. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Reid is carrying injuries, according to Longmire:
Longmire was also asked about Sam Reid, who had another very quiet night against the Crows.
A week after showing some kicking yips and gathering just five disposals against Hawthorn, Reid was again rarely sighted on Saturday night, finishing with six touches and no goals.
"He's been a bit sore for a couple of weeks with a few niggles and he hasn?t done a lot of training," Longmire said.
"He was able to do a full session on Thursday, his first full session for a couple of weeks, so hopefully now he can get into a full training program and that will help his form.
"You have to be able to train to get your form."
