Talk about a secret assassin! That is an almighty effort for a man like Marty who we take for granted (admit it now, we do). One hundred games is one thing. One hundred and ninety eight!!! legend.
We need a Marty Mattner Appreciation Thread for when he hits the official Two hundred! If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Given the outpouring of love a few weeks ago for the LRT Appreciation Thread and the subsequent 'WTF, how does LRT get a game' threads of the past 2 weeks, I think Marty may wish to pass on that one Prim....Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I'm more concerned that the last two players that passed big milestones got injured immediately after...
But yes, 100 games for the Swans and close on 200 total is a great achievement from Marty, I hope we have him around for a long time yetChillin' with the strange QuarksComment

A great pick up indeed, and taken for granted as mentioned. Would have a great Super Marty highlights reel from his time at teh Swans, always reliable and with that big booming kick out of defence or a running bounce. An important part of our solid defenceYou can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

Played in Sturt SANFL premiership team in 2002 and has been a favourite since. One of the best defenders in the comp. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Love him. Every side needs one of these.
I liked how on ask a swan, a fan asked him why he never completes a full training session.
And his reply was along the lines of he is getting old, and spends all the game covering and putting his body on the line he needs more rest to come up.
Say it's all!Comment

We sat next to his dad a couple of seasons back at Etihad. I said then we were certainly pleased to have him on board and we're still pleased, and delighted for Marty himself. A really useful player, and well done.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Hi Prims! We've been in the UK with a few days on the continent, scraping crumbs from the AFL by computers in hotels, and hugely frustrated that we couldn't see it happening. Fortunately our younger son is in London with his partner (he follows West Coast, partner follows Carlton, bit of tension there!) and they have a deal with the AFL to view games in full, so we did get to see the Kangas game and the Hawks. Wonderful stuff! He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

The most devastatingly handsome man in the AFL has reached 100 club games? Wow that just seems to have flown.
Mr 1%er - what a champ. Love Marty.
Proud to have been a member of Marty's Red Smarties.Comment

I can't gush enough over Marty, his defensive skills have been outstanding from day one. I love that he never runs onto his right, that everyone in the AFL knows that yet STILL he baulks right and people fall for it!
Great cheekbones, too.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
