    The Smooch duck....

... I honestly thought he was called out of it by Teddy who for some reason then didn't contest. In almost all cases of guys being questioned in that situation, they throw a token arm in the air and tense up. Smooch however turned his head to look behind him. If you are ducking in the normal sense of the action, are you turning to look at the guy you think is about to smash into you??

Wolftone called Smooch out in the game thread, but I've seen him put his body on the line hundreds of times over the years.

Is it a case of red and white glasses, or do I have a case????

Happy to accept he might have 'ducked', I'm just giving him an alibi and wondered on others thoughts.

He was called out by the commentators, I'm guessing Wolfy was just reiterating that. I don't know either way, but sheesh I've seen that skinny fellow back into packs and throw his body at things he really shouldn't- so if he ducked once I really don't care, I think too much gets made of individual instances of things- if it's a habitual problem then okay, but not a single incident I think too much gets made about it. To me the over analyzing of individual moments by commentary teams suggests they have too many bloody commentators and is the footy equivalent of the 24 hour news cycle.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

On another note, I'm totally down with The Smooch Duck being his new nickname, it's pretty hip and happenin'. Snoop Dogg, Smooch Duck, Al Whale.

If you were watching it without commentary, it was as simple as that, and somehow Teddy spilled the chest mark.

Love how it's always the ones who never put their head near the ball in their lives, who are the quickest to remonstrate in these situations

I was behind the goals 3 - 4 rows back Ted 100% called him out of it , don't think smithy would ever " josh hunt " it .. Just unfortunate

Pulling out is the flavour of the week. Mooney on SEN vehemently refuted that Hunt pulled out. I doubt whether any more will be heard about Smith as we don't rate a week's worth of debate. I didn't notice it at the game.

It happened mid to late second quarter in the goal square when the ball went thru and the goal ump called touched. I only saw 15 minutes of the game (with no sound) at the Brewery at Homebush en route to Skoda and that was in the bit I saw. Watched the full replay this morning. The commentators noted it was a moment he wouldn't like, suggesting he ducked his head, but they didn't even consider that Teddy may have called him out of it which looked a distinct possibility.

I'm expecting it to get a run this week on the talk shows...

Ah Stella, you make far too much sense as always! I wouldn't be surprised if Dennis manages to work Craig Thomson into one of his Commetti-isms one of these days...

Actually the call was quite ok! Shocked the hell out of me. Didn't have Dennis or Bruce, or Roos or.......hmmmm......perhaps that's the key?

As for Smooch Duck! meh.....no way known unless called out.

I hate this a lot. It's one of the last bastions of blokeness left in this country and the sooner we get rid of this perception the better for all. If a bloke ducks his head because he has some brains and knows the consequences...then he is a poof. If he head is smashed and there is a posibilty that he might suffer long term damage..then the guy showed courage.

A bloke ducks and his manliness is questions by the over weight testorone droones in the outer or by the boys club broadcasting the game.

Good call Triple B, looked to me like he was called out.

Smooch is a tough ombre, who punches above his weight.
We've all seen him do countless brave acts on the field.

                          It's a non issue.

There is a case for him being called out if you look at it again as I have. But I don't think it was Teddy who called him out I think it was someone in Black, Red & White! In the Game Day thread I was so shocked that he would pull out as he is always a courageous player. I think I expressed that at the time. Yes he did duck but maybe because he was called!
