I'm good with GWS as long as we can pinch anyone who looks like being a good player lol, and we can offload our current spuds, whoever they are
It's going well for GWS and AFL

And I can assure you it is not a 'gated community', you can just drive into and around it any time you like.

Good to see you use reputable sources like the footy show. Do you know how far Picnic Point is away from where they actually are living, both in location and standard of living (with apologies to anybody who lives at Picnic Point) ??
And I can assure you it is not a 'gated community', you can just drive into and around it any time you like.

It was in the The Age and on tfs damian barret reported on it.
meh housing estates=gated community (the gates are invisible but the sentiment is the same)Comment

Why would I.
Fact is the AFL is pouring millions into GWS, this include creating a little live-in community complete with all the trimmings in a gated community. This is costing the AFL a lot but if it guarantees success then our esteem dicta..i mean leader will just give himself a nice bonus of say half a mil.Comment

The only 'fact' you have correct is the AFL are pouring in millions to GWS.
They have not given 1c to Rosecorp nor have they 'created' a little community, the reclamation of the gasworks site and subsqequent suburb was started well before GWS was even thought of....Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Um actually they live at Breakfast Point - and as far as I'm aware it has been a housing community for a good few years now - probably sort of around the same time as the Olympics but I'm not sure and some others would know more about it, if that's what's needed to stop this little spat. I assume the AFL is spending a reasonable amount on housing the team there. I'm not sure if their Coach, Mark Williams, or their Media Liaison Manager Kevin Sheedy live there as well but I would assume so.
Picnic Point is down near Revesby on the Georges River - nice spot but a bit far from Homebush....Comment

Its one of the points and its the expensive one and not the cheaper one.
They all live in one or two blocks..kinda like a rich boarding school except with more freedom.
They are basically pampered.Comment

even if everything you say is correct, who gives a flying frig?
The AFL is a far more successful corporation than the one that you run, and they have planned and budgeted for this for years.
Sensibly, they have no expectation of crowds for a couple of years, so they are not playing at ANZ, but instead BOP and Skoda ... both small capacity, boutique grounds.
Also, they have brought an eclectic group of something like 30 teenagers together from all over Australia ... makes absolute sense for their well being to keep them all close together, and if the marketing team at Breakfast Point were smart enough to do a good deal for GWS's accommodation, good luck to them!
I would like to think they would all have a nice house in Rooty Hill, but how many Collingwood players live in Broadmeadows?
When they are flag contenders, they will get the crowds, and the AFL will have already made their money back hand over fist.
The things to be bent and twisted about are not what you mention.Comment

It kind of feels like Abe Simpson has created a RWO account.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

well so what??? If it was my son playing for them I would prefer that they looked after and supervised him and his team mates particularly if they are from interstate. These are kids and they are probably first time out of home being given an amazing opportunity. They are doing this right and it's the complete opposite to when the Swans to Sydney. I think that's what pisses you off more than anything. Times and organizations are under far greater scrutiny now than they were in 1982. Duty of care or corporate governance didn't exist in 1982 - thd AFL have had to move with the times. And they must be doing something right because it runs rings around every other sporting organization in this country and they are certainly cashed up. It's 2012 not 1982. Save yourself some angst don't worry about it you arent going to change it and constantly hoping for it to fail is a bit sad really. Life's too short to be that cranky about a footy club.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Gold!
I think the idea of lodging them all together is a great idea for the young kids.
The Swans do something similar with the players all sharing accommodation and they all live a stones throw from each other.
Given Sydney rents are so ridiculous it would be very difficult for the youngsters of both clubs to fund themselves in appropriate accommodation. Not least demonstrating to landlords the necessary tenanting experience to secure a property in high demand areas.
I'm not sure what the accommodation arrangements of the club really have on the argument of whether GWS will be a success or not but I think it smart man management.
The reality is all professional sports men are pampered. All they do is focus on themselves; what they're eating, how fast they're running, what their skinfolds are, what little niggles they have or big niggles; what can they do to eek the last bit out of their body to improve performance. It a very insular world.Comment

Exactly all elite athletes lead insular pampered lives - at least these kids are actually being looked after and mentored by people like Sheeds I' d be more than happy as a parent. And you can't tell me that the magpies are going it tough the Lexus centre (the car that every discerning Collingwood supporter drives) that joint is thd Taj Mahal of training venues and in reality the only team that may do it rough is probably North at Arden st. so to say that GWS are the only pampered club is fanciful.
