    Our dysfunctional forward line...Meh

    Swans percentage 141.66.
Four teams have more points this season, North Melbourne (meh!!!), Hawthorn (meh!!! before this weekend), Essendon (meh!!!!, beaten by Melbourne), Wet Toast (beaten by Brisbane...meh!!!!).

Seriously, does it matter who kicks the goals? Is it better to have an attacking midfield replete with goal kicking options? Do we just have a hang over from the days of yore with BBB and Plugger?
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Having midfielders kicking goals is clearly working at the SCG. The jury is still out on the slightly longer grounds where it's questionable whether it would have made a difference based on poor performances across the ground, but it would be nice to have a couple of reliable forward options. TDL definitely helps our forward line look more functional though...

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The opening quarter today showed that our midfielders can do all the work, however I think with TDL and Reid's contribution we are starting to build a forward line which can seriously help our mids in terms of goal scoring.

We are starting to look a little bit like the Bulldogs sides of 2008-09 before Barry Hall joined them - top 4 contenders on the back of our midfield depth, but lack the firepower up front to go all the way. If our midfielders consistently perform well, it may allow Goodes to spend more time up forward when he comes back. I'm not sure our youngsters quite have it in them yet though, when the effort levels drop we can still get scored heavily against as we saw against the Saints last week.

I haven't seen him play this year but it sounds like TDL is adding a bit up forward.

We look fantastic when the midfield is on top, but the lack of a forward line means we look diabolical when the midfield is struggling and can't supplement the goals. I hope today might have been a turning point for Sam - he played well today without getting the goals on the board. Maybe the Strut will return soon and Goodes to come back as well, and we can get a structure going. What we need to challenge for the flag is a forward line that can take the few chances they get when we aren't playing at our best, as a way to keep us in games we aren't playing well in. The best teams win games they shouldn't because when they find ways for their forward to keep them in games.

I have a feeling we have that forward to carry us a long way in Same Reid, and that one day it will just click with him at AFL level. Every game he plays will get him closer to that game. Just look at Lewis Jetta - this season it has just clicked and he looks the star we all hoped for. Lets hope the same happens with Sam.

Don't care who kicks the goals. I was hanging out for Teddy to kick one today. That would have made my day even better.

                  I agree 100%.

I'm of the opinion that our percentage is more a reflection of the teams we have played so far. That and our defensive line which I rate as one of the best in the comp. It's great to kick big scores without relying on any one player but to do it against the top teams is a whole different story.

I thought it helped to have LRT and Pyke/Mumford down front at the same time: the resting rucks to provide a target, LRT to lead and mark, which he does well enough to be a nuisance to the opposition. TDL makes a significant presence, while Benny, Jude and the others are the icing on the cake. Sam takes a top defender and at this stage if he kicks a goal or two it's a bonus. The outline is there, I hope the boys can turn it into a masterpiece. And the Goodes is yet to come.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

We will need to change the setup a bit for longer grounds. We go ok at Etihad, going on last years results. But need to have link men to move the ball out of defence. Let teh mids concentrate on winning the hard ball and the ruck. TDL gave us a good target today and should stay in, and it pains me to say this, but I think putting Everitt on a wing and leaving him out there may be part of teh answer to playing longer grounds. Both he and Hanners kick the ball a long way, although Eski can probably fill this role too
