That"s the best summation of his performance Liz

      Yep.

It's the same old drop LRT rubbish every week after a game these days.

I actually think LRT is a nice shot for goal not sure what his stats say, but nails them usually.

I just feel bad he lost his natural backline spot but he has performed his role week in week out, i just love the players like him who play their role in the team week after week and always give 100%

Agree. LRT did his job well, as he usually does.

I am not an LRT FAN but I can see why he is loved. Sometimes I feel there are glimpses of amazing and other times I want to do unnatural things (not in a good way) to him. Today.. He was more than serviceable. He was good. But I still feel Pyke offered more versatility. Like I said for me it's not a slight on LRT but I think Pyke offers more

I am an LRT fan and thought he did his job last night while Pykey in the ruck, to my shocked disbelief, did not have one hitout to advantage recorded, and only spent 58% of time on ground (what was that for?). But I want to keep them both there.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think Pyke was in a position that a few of our players were in last night. Been playing reserves or out injured and not really up to speed at top level, especially given the speed of the game. Armstrong, Everitt, Mummy and Pyke probably all suffered towrd the end from lack of match fitness. We really missed hanners when he went off too. It was lucky we had LRT out there giving his usual 110% in the last quarter. Most versatile player we have.

Ditto. Thoroughly disappointed in this thread. LRT has been a gun in the past few weeks including last night.

LRT value for us is his ability to play several positions and tries his hardest on usually a very good player - would he get a game in other top six teams - probably not - but for us love his effort

I think there are a few teams that wouldn't mind having LRT to drop into their back six, but really, play him forward, back, teh ruck, or on a wing, yd still get the same result, complete commitment and effort along with some footy smarts and a lot of 1% plays

Made Fletcher accountable - excellent contests - a great effort as always

Fletcher played mainly on the resting ruck, be it Mummy, Pykie and at times LRT and yes LRT made him accountable. But I think they were light on down back for the forward line we had on the day. Reid, LRT, Pyke & Everitt all playing forward. All 6'4" plus, that stretched Essendon greatly. Shocked them too. I like Mummy & Pykie as the two rucks. LRT as pinch hitter, back forward or as a foil. But the game now is about match ups and there are going to be games when we need to change out line up to get an advantage on the opposition. That may be LRT out or Pyke out ot dropping TDL but it is about advantage over the opposition. Morton is another option to come in yet and against Geelong he could get a gig! TDL or Pyke may miss out!

Despite the title of this thread I don't think it's about LRT. It's about team balance.

Depending on how you see the team balance, despite LRT being a good AFL player, he may have to miss out....or Pyke....or Spanger....

In all likelyhood I think it will be Pyke, but I prefer the 2nd ruck to be someone who can ruck as opposed to someone who can make a contest.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

We live in an era of football where teams fear their opponent scoring quickly off a turnover so much that they hug the boundary line when moving the ball forward if the corridor isn't absolutely wide open; I don't think it's too surprising to have a key forward play with the clear instruction of running to the boundary and creating a stoppage (if they can't easily mark)- at times Lewis looked to be a defender out there, steering the ball over the boundary line. We aren't getting a lot of goals from our forwards so it gives a chance for our true goal kickers to get there from the midfield.

In my opinion Lewis looked to have done the job that was asked of him on Saturday night, although I do think that saying that Dustin had zero impact isn't entirely accurate. I recall White playing a similar role against Geelong once, with Scarlett essentially being taken right out of the play.

The interesting part of me is- from a team makeup perspective, is it a premiership winning model to sacrifice a key forward role like that? I think it probably works if Goodesy comes back and settles into the forward line and we have a fourth mid sized forward that can mark on a lead.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I watched the replay last night. LRT's ability to hold off Fletcher, one of the game's best defenders, were big moments in the last quarter. I can't imagine White or Walsh doing the same.
Plus it was LRT who knocked the ball free which gave us our last goal.
He took a few grabs early in the game and kicked a goal. He didn't rack up the stats but you'd have to say he played his role really well.
