So when Reid gets the best defender and has a shocker it's ok, because he has taken their number 1 defender. But when it's LRT then it's different?
Everyone knows that we have better forward options then LRT. However he is in the team because, unlike any of those other forward options, he adds a versatility that is essential with the new sub rule.
The ability to play as a key defender, ruck or forward is pretty impressive. Not many other teams in the comp boast the luxury of this.Comment

Yep LRT is versatile, but he has rarely been used back. Pyke a better option as back 2nd ruck. Haven't seen the ressies games but on all reports Spang looking good and is a better forward option.
If we play LRT I think at times there is potential to swap with Reg or Teddy. I know our defence has generally been good this year but there has been a few times when they have been under pressure by big forward lines that I have thought that LRT back may be worth a try with both Reg or Teddy still able to offer forward options.Comment

As I said in another post, you're being extremely disrespectful to one of our own warriors. I'm not going to stick up for LRT or call for him to retain his place, but I would have thought a so-called fan would be more decent and respectful towards someone who has battled manfully for this team for a long time.Comment

Pykie is able to take a big mark TPR whereas LRT cannot against good opposition. Pykie was really good in the ruck, LRT is not! Why in any reality would you get rid of Pykie for LRT? The ruck set up we have at the moment is working for us very well let's not stuff it up! Spang needs to come in but not for Pykie but LRT!Comment

LRT I believe still has a role to play it is just not the role he is playing at the moment. He has been really good in some games this season but the opposition has not been strong. With the strong backlines he struggles to make any impact. Spang on the other hand proved last year he can play against any opposition and generally be effective.Comment

But has it been the forward line producing, or has it been the midfielders kicking a hell of a lot of goals?
An interesting observation from my dad last night- he wondered if our heavy reliance on our smalls whilst our forward line was struggling had contributed somewhat to the struggles against Essendon and Geelong, I guess using the logic that talls don't get any shorter as the game wears on but smaller legs that have to keep running do get tired. I can't really recall the spread of goals in those early quarters, but it kinda makes sense to me.
We seem to struggle to stop opposition momentum when our fleet of mids become tired.
What was sorely needed, and was sorely lacking, during the 2nd Half (and the last 1/4 against the Bombers), was a forward who could clunk a mark and kick the goal...and change the momentum of the game.
I agree with others that Spang, even though no world beater as a key forward, would be a better option than LRT. For starters, he's far better on the lead.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Agreed, LRT could have been tried down back on Hawkins this week, incidentally it wasn't the first time Reg looked a bit shaky. However there's been no sign of LRT moving back, so his versatility isn't much of a plus.
As to his negating game against Scarlett, I think Jessica did the role better last year. I have been a fan of LRT since I first joined RWO, perhaps thats why I find his current predicament a little sad. I think I saw him caught with the ball on three occasions because he simply can't get a snap off with the speed required.
If we continue to play 2 rucks, which I recomend, then his modest ability in the ruck isn't much of plus either. So it's time to give Spanky a chance as the third tall forward (Despite 'Dre's goal this week I don't think he has the presence to make an effective third tall).Comment

What sort of a crappy post is this.Show some respect for a player with limited abilities ,who has given his best for the club over many years. Critisize if necessary, but the sarcasm could be left outComment

I think with all the excited plaudits for Spangher, this should be noted:
Spangher 2011 form, which is being spoken about, as if he is going to be a revelation
K Avg H Avg D Avg M Avg HO Avg T Avg FF FA G GAvg
46 7.7 15 2.5 61 10.2 22 3.7 1 0.2 13 2.2 8 6 8 1.3
10 disposals for 1 goal it is not that good guys.
I hope he comes in and kills it, but with that record, and his injury record. I think some red and white glasses are being worn.Comment

Ugg as far as I was aware the match ups changed with every interchange of a forward. Scarlett was sometimes on the resting ruck, other times on Goodes and then LRT. Can't blame LRT entirely.Comment

Come on, this has got to do with his quality of performance though. Nobody would be calling for his head if he was making a decent contribution. Our forward line's complete dysfunction is the biggest hinderance to our chances and I'm not against letting somebody in the reserves have a go at LRT's expense.Comment

Feels like 2005 this thread... all it needs is someone to scream that we will never win the Premiership with Jude Bolton in the side and the flash-back will be complete.
FWIW I think our forward line needs more work - and that may well mean giving someone else a go in LRT's spot. Love the old unco warrior tho'.Comment
