    No respect

Watching Offsiders on the ABC this morning, there was one sentence about a great game between Geelong and the Swans on Friday night, then it was all about Collingwood-West Coast being a GF preview, and plenty of coverage about the Freo-Essendon game, and how the Bombers might be genuine top 4 prospects.

It reminded me a bit of 05/06 where we didn't really get any respect and sort of flew under the media's radar. Does it matter? It's kind of annoying but if we keep getting results that's the best way to answer it.

Dont need the respect. That comes after a top 4 finish and a least a prelim. Rather not have the media hype. Only makes the expectation go up and the added pressure does not help. Look at all the praise after the hawks win and then we got smashed by the tiggers.

I don't give a damn what the media think. There was a saying years ago about Sports Journalists in the media 'What that bunch of drunks'! The conditions may have changed and they don't drink quite as much but they are still clueless! We don't need people who's IQ is hard to find defining our football team.

To be honest how much do we deserve as we lost to adelaide and still have collingwood and west coast to come. If we beat either of them the swans will be respected as a premiership candidate.

I think you're right. The fact we could not beat Adelaide cast a shadow over 05/06. Personally I think we have to beat Collingwood before we'll be taken seriously this time. Hopefully that will happen in Round 20.

There are too few AFL journos here in Sydney to overhype this team. We have plenty of respect in the AFL and general media, just not the overhype of some, mostly Melbourne, teams.....

And unfortunately too few people here in Sydney have much more than a passing interest in the game......

Also, our game was on Friday, and a whole day has gone by since then. Its probable that the media cannot cope with more than one day at a time.

Had we continued on with our first quarter and taken that thru the whole game the media may have been raving, but he news is what "just" happened, if it happened yesterday it's old news. At 5-0 we got plenty of hype, didn't get us far. I'd prefer we just go about our business in a quiet dignified manner

I find this topic surprising. I was enjoying having the Friday might game, which meant that Melbourne talkback radio was flooded with praise of the Swans constantly up until the first Saturday game. More hype than we normally receive, thats for sure.

If you want to listen to AFL programs on the radio, then do as I do and download the TuneIn app. You might be surprised that members of the Melbourne media have tipped us to be in the Grand Final.

I think at times we like to play the 'nobody loves us' card.

Just after the Swans game I turned on the radio and lots of people were having a crack talking about us being mentally weak, not a genuine premiership chance, that out fadeouts were becoming a habit, that this was two weeks in a row that were lucky to win (right because we weren't the team that built the big lead...) ect.

I found it pretty disrespectful, but I'm pretty pleased no one rates us. We'll surprise those twits when their not expecting it.

To be fair we have been building our credibility back after some really poor losses. Our next big game against West Coast is going to be the one. We need to take it up to them and if we win, or get close, then I'd expect us to not be overlooked so easily. We've got to earn it, and you only do that if you keep winning.

I don't care what the Melbourne media think of us. Results are the only thing that count and we have won 9 out of 12 games, which is damn good in my opinion.

On the coach is the only show that ever talks about the swans i remember the week we vsed the bombers, i was watching afl 360 and all they did was talk about melbourne v collingwood(which collingwood won convincingly).

Why worry about things that you can't control ? And does it really matter? I'd rather we fly under the radar (we go better that way) and hopefully shock them all when it does matter which is in the month of September. Until we can put 4 good solid quarters together we can't expect to be thought of as genuine contenders. You can only scrape over the line so often. So maybe we should just take a collective chill pill and just wait and see what transpires.

Tune into SEN now and it's Nathan Thompson and Terry Wallace talking abouts Swans this and Swans that. Teddy Richards, our fast starts, being able to rally once headed, our pace etc etc.
