The next Simon Madden, I think you're jumping the gun just a tad too early.

Belconnen coach talks up brilliant Swans

Belconnen Magpies coach Matthew Lokan has backed the Sydney Swans reserves as NEAFL eastern conference premiership favourites after witnessing their devastating best at the SCG yesterday.

The Swans produced a 12-goal third quarter to blow away the ACT visitors by 130 points, 31.10 (196) to 10.6 (66).

I unfortunately missed the first quarter of the ressies, due to the extra early start. Indeed I must confess to a certain lack of positive thoughts about the "Legends" game even before I saw them take the field.

But what a extraordinary exhibition of footbal that was, till the day I die I shall count myself lucky having seen such "Legends" of the insurance industry gracing the SCG. To see the incomparable Arnold "Dr No" Poindexter (best know for his unbroken run of 2,597 rejected claims), Sheila Hiffenegger (Team leader of the south-west regional actuarial determination unit "The Incalculables"), Hyram "The Pencil" Pencildick (Confidential Personal Assistant to the Deputy Head of Personel Assistance) and Archie "Bumcrack" Edelstun (whose run of 16 quartely sales increases and 2 coronary bypasses remain a league record) all puffing and sweating together on the one field. Magic!

To return from the surreal world of QBE midlife crises, I thought too felt Mitchell and Harry's omission form the best list as odd. TDL was again excellent, and Jessica's 3rd quarter was amazing (such a tease!). BTW what happened to Tommy Walsh? And was RoosII having a lend with those thigh pads or wat?

Walsh hurt his left shoulder, which was strapped already, early in the first quarter. Seemed in some pain and took his time getting off down the race and didn't reappear

Walsh injured himself early in the game. I didn't see the injury but was suddenly aware of him standing on the sideline in front of me (he was shirtless) having his shoulder manipulated and seemingly in a lot of pain. So probably a dislocation.

You noticed that too. Did you see how he did that skip backwards walk when going back to kick for goal? Little double skip both sides. Roos did that too.

thigh pads may be indicative of a genetic predisposition.

See ANZ GWS ressie game posts. Was a rookie, comes from top end, playing in local comp and Swans are playing him as a toppie through to end of season. He is quick decision maker isn't he. Always seems to take a quarter to warm up to it though.

They played the game out, didn't put the que in the rack, and it looked like they were fighting for senior positions all the way through. Lots of positives.

Don't put too much onto Jesse's moment of glory, unfortunately he lost sight of the ball in play too often and just didn't react quickly enough. I love the bloke, and his endeavour, but......aaaaggghhhhhh. He can be so good, but its like a candle in the night; awful lot of night, and only one little candle. BUT I did see him involve the newer toppies, acknowledging good work, encouraging, etc. You know what? He just may make a reasonable coaching assistant.

Most of the boys played well to extremely well.

Jed is looking the goods of what he could be.
Harry is more mobile around the place instead of just starring in a small area.
                Dunno about Dyl.
Nipper is trying his hardest out there; walking a fine line or two; he could be a keeper, eventually.
I do like Naismith. You can see the potential. And he is getting better each time he takes to the ground.
                I though Mitch did a good job;
Tom Mitchell doesn't look quite as good as his dad face wise, but he is a smart kid; he will be fine.
Tommy Walsh was in a world of pain. It was most distracting to see as we kind of were focussing on the bonus view seeing him without his shirt (He is a natural, some blokes have a "build" and some don't, even when fit as a fiddle, and Tommy definitely has a "build" - eye candy all the way).
TDL must be pushing for selection; he is getting better and better, his plateauing has finished and he is starting to move up the scale now.
Luke Parker is a gem; nearly there.

Actually there were no real passengers. Reasonably impressive. Future looking workable.

For those heading up to Metricon to watch the double header, @NEAFL_Eastern just tweeted that the ressies match starting time has been brought forward to 3pm instead of the previously published 3.30pm

In regards to Naismith and Broome just remember when talking them up that GWS have access to any NSW based player aged 19 or older. As a result I don't think either are anywhere near draftable players and are just making up the numbers in our reserves side.

I was delighted to see Naismith get a goal yesterday.

It still rankles with me that Morton kicked for goal rather than hand passing to the kid when the 'team' thing would have been just that (a few weeks ago).

On that 'Swans culture' note, it was nice to read the comment about the encouragement White was giving out to his team mates.

Might be time for Naismith to have a mysterious career ending injury from which he can make a miraculous recovery when we pick him at 114 in the rookie draft.

Seems Naismith is in our Academy, I thought that meant first dibs for us?

"Born in Gunnedah, northern NSW, Naismith moved to Sydney after being selected for the Swans Academy, where he trains with the under-16 and under-18 squads."

It does when they are 18 or under.

I think GWS seem ok for young ruckmen - also I would hope that there would be a pretty much unwritten agreement between GWS and us that each team would have first dibs on guys like Naismith that they are letting train with the Academy and being used as top-ups...... Certainly looks to be a guy we'd give a Rookie list gig to next year....
