Have we underestimated Jarrad McVeigh?

I've always thought he was a really good, underrated player, but nowhere near the level that the article suggests. Such an unsung hero. NSW developed player too, which is promising for future prospects.
Always loved Jarrad's passion for the club.Comment

I think players like McVeigh, Maxfield and Kirk just show how little us supporters know about the inner workings of the club and how maybe we should cut the coaches and selectors some slack when they appoint the leadership group and captains.
I was shocked about Maxfield being appointed as captain back in the day (Thought maybe someone else would be better), but it seems as though he was such a huge influence on the inception of the bloods culture. When he proved to be a great leader and we were successful in 2003, I resolved to never again question the clubs decisions on who's in the leadership group.
Although players like Kirk and McVeigh (Seemingly) don't have the ability of a Kelly or Goodes, their leadership ability to get guys to follow their lead (Stuff we don't see on the field) is very valuable... probably moreso than playing ability. You can sometimes have the most gifted captains but a crappy team.
On ROK... yeah, I like him and he's a star and everything, but he left a sour taste in my mouth after he wanted to leave a few years ago for Carlton. He can regain some honour by kicking the winning goal in the 2012 Grand Final though.Comment

Given that the article is by Pendles, it has some merit. I see Macca a bit like how Hawthorn uses Shaun Burgoyne now - not in the game-breaking way they used to, but as a leader who steadies the side where they need it by example. I read that Burgoyne attends the defensive, midfield and forward meetings. They don't play through them like they do a Suckling or Birchall, but he plays the role of setting up the side around him, being disciplined, making good decisions and using it well.
He isn't going to tear a game apart - that's for Jetts, the Champ, Kieren. He's there to lead and reinforce the gameplan. I've never had an issue with him like others, yet still have been more than impressed with how he leads. Watching him live at the game adds to this, he's always getting around his teammates and setting up at stoppages. And on a sidenote, can bake a teammate when they go against team rules ... I remember Rhyce making a horrible decision with the pill that lead to a goal v St Kilda at Etihad, Macca jogged past and let him know that he needed to be better.Twitter: @tp_roseComment

Thought the Harbow-McVeigh match up was an absolute cracker, deserved more kudos than it got - they were at each other all night. Obviously, a deliberate move by the Swans to keep Harbrow accountable given the run he's been giving GCS recently - maybe we'll see a similar move with Yarran this week?Comment

I'd prefer to see McGlynn take on Yarran, he doesn't like close attention.
McVeighs' recent form has been really good, long may it continue.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment
