    Anyone got a shovel?

Gotta get down to Victoria Park and dig up those Colliwobbles.

They are an awesome side Brisbane - greatest I have ever seen - and they had fitness problems - played against a side that had two injuries on its entire list .

    Awesome effort.

It's scary how good the Lions were today - and have been for the past 3 or 4 years (weren't that far behind Essendon by the end of 2000). And although they're thought to be an oldish side, so many of their really good players are still pretty young - Black, Brown, Power for example - while the likes of Johnson, Akermanis, Leppitsch, Lappin, the Scott brothers are young enough that they should be able to maintain that level for another 3 or so years yet. Losing Lynch within the next year or so will hurt them, and you wonder how much longer Voss' body will hold out, but they look capable of remaining the benchmark of the competition for several years yet.

(Mind you, I still reckon we should have beaten them last week had we played the kind of footy we were capable of )

I'm not so sure Liz - probably what we saw in the final qrtr and Collingwood today was certainly the greatest side I have seen.

IMO their strength around the footy would have been too much for us.

In a sense this has opened up next year.

B'Bane have a lot of 30 yo's and only 35 on their list they really can't keep going forever.

Collingwood will be mentally scared - and were really shown up for their lack of genuine class - from a talent perspective they are a 6 - 10 side who managed to play at their maximum.

Port have lost Stevens and look set to implode.

Next year will be interesting - no obvious contenders really.

While it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Lynch, Ashcroft and White call it quits, they are all playing well enough to go around again for at least another year.

Add in the fact that McDonald and the 2 Scotts weren't playing, and they'll be back next year, there's no reason why the Lions couldn't do it all again.

But as is always the case, injuries will really determine whether or not they get a chance at it in 2004.

And of course, there's that issue of the Sydney Swans that they'll have to contend with

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

If Doyle and Ball were going to tackle their two rucks it would be interesting

          Academic until next year

Don't disagree with that Reggi. But...

Roos has constantly held up the Lions as the team to emulate. No rocket science there - they're clearly the best. And if he can instill anything like the mental toughness that the Lions have into our team it will go a long way to getting us where we desperately want to be.

But in terms of building a team, he has no chance (with the core of the current squad) of emulating the type of team the Lions are. They are just so big and strong and we don't have the players with the physique to develop that kind of strength. But it isn't the only type of team that can win a premiership. The Bombers team of 1999-2000 was built more on skill and class (not that the Lions aren't also pretty skilfull) while the Adelaide teams of 1997 and 1998 were nothing like as big and strong as this big Brisbane team. He has to build a team that plays to its strengths - and ours have to be speed and daring, hopefully combined with an ever increasing skill level (which they definitely demonstrated this year). Where we lost the game last week, IMO, was we stopped taking risks. For the short period we did, we played some good footy.

Of course it's all very easy on an internet board in six weeks before pre-season training starts!

Now Collingwood can head off to their end of season trip, they may decide to choose somewhere not so familiar to them, Western Australia
