I don't know if this has been addressed on this forum and it's about a week late, but I heard a quote replayed at the weekend from Mark Fine (SEN) saying Paul Roos should be banned from commenting on Sydney games because he's too one-eyed and just barracks for the Swans. He was speaking of course about the game against his beloved Saints. Maybe I'm too one-eyed, but I thought Roos called it as it was. I though Danny Frawley was the one who was almost sycophantic in his comments about St Kilda, and the fact that he seemed ready to cry about the "injustice of the Swans winning by 29 points".

Is it just me?

Nup, maybe they should remove every commentator that has ever had an association with a club removed, or employ people that are totally unbiased. But then they wouldn't be hiring people at all, they'd be hiring robots.

Mark Fine is about as useful as a one armed trapeze artist with an itchy arse. I wouldn't worry about anything that goose has to say.

There was a great moment in the history of commentary at the end of the Essendon game last year when for a sec Goodes looked to give it off to McGlynn rather than go back for the set shot (you know the one he missed just after the siren) - Roos in the commentary box audibly shouts 'Oh no' [or something similar]. They had a nice go at him On the Couch afterwards, it was hardly dispassionate and neutral commentary.

But nothing wrong with that. I think he is doing a good job and calls it as he sees it - he rubbishes some free kick decisions that go in favour of the Swans, some that go against. It is easy to hear him when criticising the latter and think it is bias. I can see Saints fans' point when Milne kicks a brilliant goal and he rubbishes the Swans defence - probably a moment where you focus a little more on the goal then the defence that allowed it to happen.

He's getting better as he goes along. It's hard to commentate on players you've coached and know well. It's not like he has no involvement in the club anymore either. I don't think commentators should be calling matches involving their former clubs to be honest, at least until a few years have passed.

It's a bit rich calling for Roos to be turfed though considering the biased commentary towards most other clubs that we've been putting up with for years.

I'm all for people aligned with certain clubs to call their games; it can make for some real passion and insight. The issue is when that commentator also has a lot of power and pull in the AFL. Someone like Eddie McGuire has been perceived to have been trying to push his own, and Collingwood's, agenda when calling Pies games. I think that's why he was removed from calling them. I would guess that as long as Roosy doesn't cross that sort of line, and he's quite influential, then he should be ok to call our games IMHO......

Maybe it wont be happening forever as there was a side comment on SEN a couple of evenings ago when reference was made to Roos becoming available for coaching at the end of next year. First I'd heard of it but it wouldnt surprise me.

I'm all for people aligned with certain clubs to call their games; it can make for some real passion and insight. The issue is when that commentator also has a lot of power and pull in the AFL. Someone like Eddie McGuire has been perceived to have been trying to push his own, and Collingwood's, agenda when calling Pies games. I think that's why he was removed from calling them. I would guess that as long as Roosy doesn't cross that sort of line, and he's quite influential, then he should be ok to call our games IMHO......

I think it's different with Presidents as well. They have a political agenda to push, while Roos doesn't.

He too old. No defensive pressure.

Maybe he had a deal with Swans to not coach for three years (or contracted as Academy Coach until then)?

You would imagine that any number of clubs would be prepared to offer him quite a substantial wad.

Maybe he can fix up the Dees, the Dogs or Richmond (Port or Suns even)? I'd probably be OK with him generating some success for any of them but, gees, I'd feel a little disturbed if he turned up anywhere else.

I've got to say I was wondering when someone was going to complain about Roosy comments. As a long time one eyed swans supporter even I have been barely tolerating his comments. He seems to always criticise the opposition after a piece of play which is fairly easy to backup with hindsight. I can imagine opposition supporters will tire of this quite quickly as we are also often winning. He needs to lift his game a touch.

Mike Sheahan asks him pretty much every other week on OTC whether he is available to coach, and he has indicated he is not. Things might change, of course, nothing he has said publicly indicates he has any enthusiam for being a senior coach again any time soon,

I love roosy and have the utmost respect for him however he is really biased haha and does rubbish the other team quite a bit. To be honest it does get pretty annoying but his lifted his game abit lately.
