The fact we only got beat by 8 points without Reid, Bolton and Goodes ;-) while not playing well can be seen as a positive. Once the disappointment wears off I'm sure I'll start to see that as well.
Malthouse confirmed this on radio today.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

I don't need a dictionary, because we don't have any neutral venues in Sydney. We're the home team. The majority of the crowd supports us, whatever venue we play at.

Anyone else at the ground noticed that when the Ch7 footage 'zoomed in' so that they could advertise some crap down the bottom the game clock could be visible because it shifted it out of the 'patch' that was supposedly covering it on the scoreboard?

Although I share everyone's disappointment in the loss. I feel more that it was a game we lost rather than a win by the pies.

In a game of inches there were a few defensive dropped marks that hurt us.

Was really happy with Alex Johnson's game and loved Jetta's field kicking.

All in all enough for me to remain upbeat about last night and what lies ahead.

I'm not sure if had a niggle at all, but a couple of times Pyke looked absolutely, completely buggered out there and just couldn't run/didn't chase. I've not seen that from him before.
Totally agree, we over used it in the F50....and it cost us dearly.

As for Pyke, he twisted his ankle quite badly last week, I was surprised he got up for this game.

Maybe our boys were overwhelmed with the expectation because they missed goals last night that normally they would get with their eyes closed. Our disposal was off and we fiddled around with some stupid hand passes - all I know is that it was bloody freezing and the pies supporters around us were pains in the arse!! Not a happy night.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

With the standard of homebush stadium, it is better that the pies were a pain in the arse on the night, not the next morning!

re: ben reid taking uncontested mark after mark, this is because we never replaced reid, and with just goodes and lrt as the tall targets c"wood didnt need to play reid on either of them. i dont know why some people have deluded themselves into thinking lrt is a premiership full forward. he may give "100%" in every contest, but he still loses most of them. our midfield was dominating most of the game, but they just kicked blindly cause there was no forward demanding the ball.

those having a go at TDL, give it a rest, he isnt a number one forward, but he does have qualities the team can harness. he finds space in a forward line where the opposition defenders think there isnt any, doesnt drop good passes and i think hes one the most reliable in the team from set shots (within 40-45 metres)

i think armstrong was a poor choice as sub. his skills wouldve been handy all night.

Incredibly depressing result against the old nemesis. Can't wait til the day we finally knock 'em off. Looking back at the scoreboard today I was reminded of how many points we kicked, 9.16-12-6. As others have mentioned, that's an obvious positive for us- shouldn't happen next time. Then, the legendary Goodesy can only get better. It was sorta funny watching the camera on Longmire last night as he dragged Goodes with 6 or so minutes to go after he turned the ball over then, desperately raced back, won the ball in the back 50 only to set up Armstrong to be run down for a Collingwood goal. My lip reading aint that good but I reckon it went something like, "... Now, there's five minutes to go, @@@@@@@ing do something!" Goodes promptly went back on and, desperate to '@@@@@@@#ing do something' pinched the ball off LRT (who'd won the free with a brilliant tackle) and duly kicked the ball out on the full! Also interesting to note how Longmire defended the loose player in defense. I think he said we'd probably broken even here, only turned the ball over a few times to the loose Collingwood defender plus got to within a couple of points with 30 seconds to go, thereby proving the tactic held up pretty well. I dunno, he could be right, especially as the three Collingwood talls worried us so much. Not sure though?

Last weeks game against Carlton at Etihad was a hard game.
LRT , Pyke and several others took big hits and had to be helped off the ground at different times.
We also had only a 6 day break after what was virtually a night game.
I think the way we played against the Pies gives me confidence that we a genuine chance this year and are able to match it with the better (top 6) teams.
In the last few games aginst the Pies we were blown away early and never really had a chance. But for some wayward kicking , to position as well as goal we could have won by 4 goals.
