It's as good as gold Swans still underrated in Melb. Let em have their expert opinions. If Buddy is hot after 6 weeks out of the game, he is truly extraordinary."He was proud of us when we won and he was still proud of us when we lost' Tami Roos about Paul Sept 06.Comment

In essence i still think we should be favourites. And its not that i care what the journos say, its just that here on RWO we should remain informed and confident in our side and not have to worry needlessly because some douche doesnt do his research.Comment

The way Hawthorn play
I think we should be short priced favourites to beat Hawthorn at the SCG. (Maybe I be red faced on Saturday night) But the way Hawthorn play is always side ways tranisition between full back to the wing, they never go directly down the centre or directly down one of the wings. With our forward press and the smaller ground I think we will choke their game. Just wish we were playing finals at the SCG. A win on Saturday and top 2 is a gurantee, so who cares about the Geelong game.Comment

Haha sorry thats looks like i didnt do my research, but i did, i just typed 3 instead of 2 (and i did proofread before posting too).

In all seriousness, I agree; we'll beat the Hawks on Saturday but it won't be easy. Both teams have a difficult run home and a loss in both rounds means a third place finish. The difference for us is if we win Saturday, we have the minor premiership secured with only the Cats serving as a momentum booster ahead of the finals.
I worry about the Cats more than the Hawks but I think the draw favours us just a little bit here..Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sectorComment

Well in the past two wins they have had it was Puopolo and Gibson that did a far amount of damage.
You'd expect Buddy to play after todays footage. Hopefully he will get tired quickly. That still leaves Roughead.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

The journos haven't given us anything other than the occasional backhanded compliment all year. So what - who cares what they think?!?!? Until our boys give us a reason to doubt them, the pessimism of many here is what is a bit disappointing.
The only speed bump in the last two and a half months was the pies game. More scoring shots for an 8 point loss, proven by subsequent results to be a very VERY fortunate outcome for the pies.
The boys are flying and boast winning form against both opponents in last two rounds. Will win this week, thus offering up a chance to back off a bit in the last round. Our excellent boys won't be doing that however - it's not in their DNA - and will beat the cats too. There is no sensible reason to expect anything other than a belter effort and a win in both games, which is mostly what the boys have delivered all year (with very few exceptions).
Our opponents this week have had a very different season. They have been the epitome of flat track bullies in the same two and a bit month period (if not all season). All wins are of course important across a season in racking up the 4 points, but there are wins that mean something, and then there are routine wins against weaker/underperforming/struggling opponents. Hawthorn have belted everyone they should have (getting 4 points but nothing much else).
Wins that could be rated as significant/against quality opponents are pretty rare in their season. Can anyone find any wins to really get excited about on their behalf, other than:
Round 1 (Pies, who were arguably underdone and behind the rest of the comp coming off the grannie)
Round 3 (against Adelaide, who were relatively unproven then, coming off a poor couple of seasons, albeit with reasonable 'who cares cup' form)
Round 17 (Pies, in one of their more uncompetitive efforts all year).
Round 18 (Essendon, slumping and basically cooked, although still in the 8 at that stage)
And even these wins have question marks against them. Perversely, their best performances of the season are probably against the Cats in Rounds 2 & 19 - and both were losses!!!
Of course, teams can only beat who they play against, but if you look at the Hawks season overall they have barely won any really tough contests. Premiership sides need to be able to win tough games against quality opponents. For a few reasons the Hawks haven't done so (the draw has been pretty kind to them since round 6, and they've had good fortune to get teams like North and Carlton when they've been off the pace).
That so many are confident about the Hawks chances in the finals beggars belief. Finals are harder than regular season games, so why on earth should anyone think they will cope well with those games?!?!?! Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Hawks become straight set losers and out of the finals without a win. And could conceivably finish the season with four straight losses . . . wonder what odds I can get!?!?!Last edited by SwansFan1972; 21 August 2012, 11:27 PM.Comment

The criticism is aimed at whoever can be potshot at. So many experts are bog ignorant and wouldn't get a job bending bananas. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Some articles are based on hearsay, with very little truth, i.e. recent Buddy articles.
Other articles are based on the journo's opinion. If a journo doesn't barrack for the Swans or doesn't watch many of our games, I would think it reasonable that his/her opinion may differ from ours, in most cases.Comment

One day, perhaps if we are lucky and all the stars align, AFL will sit on a 'journalist' who makes up stories or who can't be bothered to be check facts, and take legal action. Do you think its even remotely possible that teams like the Pies, Crows, Bombers, Blues, Saints, Kangaroos, Dockers only had bad days because the Hawks have been just so dominant this year?Comment
