Bizzare why play walsh now? If they were thinking of playing him why play Morton as sub last 2?? Why play Morton as a sub only and not give him a full game??
Did they expect to sub him for 20mins and he would slot straight in up front and kick 5??
Goodes Walsh LRT - Goodes form and decision making are at an all time low, LRT competes hard but is not a lead up FWD he is a pinch hitter and Walsh is a ... from what Ive seen is pretty much the same as LRT but maybe slower.
Surely Jesse would have been a better option than Walsh at this stage??
Hopefully Jetta is back in form, Jude will probably play more as a FWD, if we are to win Jude, Jets, Jack and Benny need to kick a couple each and anything Goodes kicks will be a bonus - I do really hope Goodes turns it around and kicks 4- 5.

It angers me so much the treatment of TDL and Morton, always put in as sub can never show their true potential. Morton should have played the full game in either of his previous two games, if he was to play again this week i would say fitness wise he may have had to be the sub again.

Morton is a brilliant talent and is wasted playing two's.

Not sure I quite understand the angst. Jude has been playing largely in the forward line this year (with the ability to play in the middle if needed). For me it is a no-braner that he comes back into the team if he's fit. He scores goals and puts on heaps of scoreboard pressure. Morton makes way.

Reid is a tall and the coaches clearly like the tallish structure. No doubt they tossed up between Spangher and Walsh, and it was probably a close call. But Walsh has worked his butt off in every reserves game I've seen, and has shown steady improvement as the season has worn on. Is he ready to step up yet? Not sure, but we'll find out on Saturday afternoon. I think he's earned the chance to find out. Hopefully they'll instruct him to play up the ground a bit, presenting a target on long leads. His relative lack of pace shouldn't be as exposed in this role, and he can make the most of his endurance. His marking on a pressured lead is now pretty good. No reason why he can't play the same kind of role that ROK played before he transformed himself into a midfielder.

I doubt much thought was given to Jesse this week, They are obviously trying to transform him into a ruckman, based on the role he's been playing for the second half of the year in the reserves. And to Jesse's credit, he's been playing it with vigour and enthusiam - he's probably realised that learning how to be semi-decent ruckman is his last chance to resurrect his career. If LRT or Pyke gets injured, he might get a shot at a senior spot, but hard to see him coming into the team to play primarily in the forward line.

Didn't Tommy get injured about a month or so ago? He'd seemed to be going pretty well in Ressies prior to that from all reports, so it sounds like he deserves another crack. I still remember how well he went in the International Rules matches last year and I still think that, given time, he'll be a more than handy player for us.

So with one of the most important games of the home and away season you suggest we play White (who's not earned selection) so as to enhance his trade value? Hell, that's got to be more important than a home final!

It seems that Longmire considers Goodes to be a HFF/MF and not a tall forward, so has structured the team for 2 tall forwards plus resting Ruckman, and Goodes floating in and out. The structure seems more important than the players. I can see his point. The structure and discipline come first and we just hope that the players in for that week are up to the task. It's a bit inflexible, a bit predictable (as has been commented on), but it has it's benefits, in that every player should know what to do in a given situation. I guess it's the practice make perfect philosophy.

Can't argue too much with success, although I would have hoped for a bit more 'x factor' in the team. It should be interesting to see how we go against a very strong and experienced defense.

With an Irishman, a Canadian and a defender for our forward line we may very well be unpredictable, but probably more to ourselves than the opposition. I don't know if there's much x-factor there, perhaps a bit of Y-Factor.

As said previously on here Walsh replaces Reid as a tall fwd and Jude replaces Morton as mid-sized half forward. Jude's played in that role all year bar the odd wet game (e.g first Dogs win). Bringing in the Irishman means we play with the same set-up and predictability to each other. Tommy Walsh might give us a bit of X-factor going into this game. He'll be absolutely pumped at being selected for such an important game. Geelong won't know what to expect from him.
