NEAFL Semi Final 2
Queanbeyan Tigers v Sydney Swans Reserves
Saturday 1st September 2.00pm
Manuka Oval
The top 2 teams battle for a spot in the Grand Final to be played in a fortnight's time. The loser will play the winner of Sunday's Ainslie v Eastlake clash in next week's preliminary final.
The Tigers improvement this year under new playing coach Kade Klemke has been nothing short of remarkable. Having won just 4 games and subsequently missing out on the finals action last year, Klemke's charges have won an amazing 15 games this year and have easily been the best Canberra based side in the NEAFL this year. They are in great form and their confidence is sky high riding on the crest of a 8 game winning streak.
The Reserves were comfortable winners over Ainslie in last week's qualifying final, which was extended their own winning streak to 6 games. They dominated the contest after trailing at quarter time despite losing two key players Dennis-Lane and Heath to injuries during the match. The Reserves' only previous meeting with Queanbeyan this year resulted in an entertaining win (see below) but have not played at Manuka Oval this year.
The game will be streamed live on neafl.com.au (via USTREAM). There also looks to be a replay facility but having tried it for the Ainslie match last week and having it fail I'm not confident it will be available.

R11 Queanbeyan 14.12 (96) defeated by Reserves 20.17 (137) @ Dairy Farmers Park
The Swans were fired up for the top-of-the-table clash and they stormed away to a 42 point half time lead. However the Tigers fought back to come within 2 goals during the 4th quarter before the Swans steadied to take home the points. Mark Seaby had yet another BOG performance while Mitch Morton kicked his 4th 6+ goal haul of the season.
Goals: Morton 8, White 2, Cunningham 2, Lycakis, McNeil, Wynn, Biggs, Jack, Cullen, Walsh, Potter
Best: Seaby, Cunningham, Moore, Morton, McNeil, Heath

2011
R11 Reserves 15.12 (102) defeated Queanbeyan 7.11 (53) @ Lakeside Oval
Poor ball use by the Swans and good pressure from the Tigers ensured a close contest for the majority of the game. The Swans' superior fitness came to the fore in the last quarter as usual and they buried Queanbeyan with 4 goals to none. Jesse White kicked 6 goals with Paul Bevan excelling as a leading forward.
Goals: White 6, Moore 3, Heath 2, Bevan 2, Thompson, Gordon
Best: Bevan, McNeil, Currie, Heath, Murphy, Sumner
---------------------------------------------------
R13 Reserves 33.22 (220) defeated Queanbeyan 5.2 (32) @ Sydney Cricket Ground
A weakened Queanbeyan side, debuting a new coach and a few youngsters, were no match for a disciplined outfit. Trent Dennis-Lane ran riot in the first half with 8 goals, before ending with 9 while Nathan Gordon and Matthew Spangher also had days out with 7 and 6 goals respectively. Jarred Moore set the tone early with his forward half tackling and distribution while Luke Parker won plenty of ball in the midfield.
Goals: Dennis-Lane 9, Gordon 7, Spangher 6, Moore 3, E.Moody 2, Sumner 2, Parker, A.Moody, Currie, Pyke
Best: Gordon, Moore, Parker, Spangher, Currie, Sumner
---------------------------------------------------
R20 Queanbeyan 4.13 (37) defeated by Reserves 21.24 (150) @ Dairy Farmers Park
A side with little to play for had little resistance for the rampaging Reserves who were still in contention for the minor premiership. Nathan Gordon continued his hot form with 6 goals and an all round BOG performance. Dylan McNeil and Jarred Moore dominated the midfield.
Goals: Gordon 6, Dennis-Lane 5, Spangher 2, Lamb 2, Moore 2, McNeil, Lynch, Malceski, Robinson
Best: Gordon, McNeil, Moore, Rohan, Lamb, Malceski

Last Round
Reserves 24.17 (161) defeated Ainslie 13.4 (82) @ Blacktown International Sports Park
What looked like being a close game at half time was blown apart by the Swans in the 2nd half. They kicked 14 goals to 6 despite losing Trent Dennis-Lane and Campbell Heath to injury during the game. The ruckwork of Jesse White gave his midfielders including Jarred Moore, Dylan McNeil, Andrejs Everitt and Jed Lamb plenty of first possessions while Tommy Walsh was marking anything and everything coming his way.
Goals: Everitt 4, Broome 4, Meredith 2, Walsh 2, Dunn 2, Plug 2, Spangher 2, Moore 2, Lamb 2, Lycakis, Roebuck
Best: White, Walsh, Everitt, Moore, McNeil, Lamb
Queanbeyan had the week off as a reward for winning the minor prermiership. They beat Tuggeranong in the final round of the regular season.
Tuggeranong 8.8 (56) defeated by Queanbeyan 19.14 (128)
Goals: Campbell 6, Freund 4, Stevens 2, Heaslip 2, K.Klemke, Franchi, Atkinson, Quade, Griggs, Kavanagh
Best: Quade, Stevens, Conroy, Campbell, King, Franchi
Team List
Listed players
Changes
In: Morton (senior demotion), Lynch (omitted), Cunningham (omitted), Gordon (senior emergency)
Out: Tommy Walsh (senior promotion), Alex Brown (???)
14 listed players named so 2 to drop out. At least 1 will be from the named emergency trio of Meredith, Morton and Armstrong with Morton the least likely to travel due to his shortened game time in recent weeks. Possibly 2 will travel depending on how confident they are of Jude taking to the field at Kardinia Park. Otherwise they'll have to omit an unlucky player and if they are keen to get some sort of rotation system going then it won't come from Lynch, Cunningham or Gordon. Those fringe players still with a chance of playing in the seniors like White, Spangher, Armstrong and Everitt are unlikely to be omitted as well while Moore being the captain and best performed Reserves player this year should be safe as houses too.
Academy Players/Topups
Changes
In: Bosschieter, Green, McKinlay, Schacher, Thurgarland, Wray
Out: Lewis Broome, Mitch Crawford, David Lycakis, Joshua Roebuck, Jordan Weir
The topups were well-performed last week with Broome one of the standouts with his 4 well taken goals playing as a small forward.

Kavanagh's 76 goals saw him pip our own Mitch Morton for the goalkicking award. He also managed to bag 6 when the Tigers met the Swans in Round 11. Midfielders Mitch Daniher, a Mulrooney Medallist, Toby Conroy and Kaine Stevens, player-coach Kade Klemke off the half back flank, key forward Ryan Quade and former Bomber Jarrod Atkinson as a speedy winger-forward type are the other players to look out for.
