I actually enjoyed Walsh's game last week. He contested( like LRT) every time the ball was in his area, and won quite a few to advantage.

But I smell a 2-3 possession, no influence, type return....He's still a way away from being a regular AFL contributor.

I worry about what influence he can have on this game....I'd much prefer Armstrong or Morton or even Everitt.

You are probably not too far off the matk Ernie but then again last week Pykie, he & LRT were constantly running into each other and spoiling each other in the marking contest. I fail to see how they don't know their team-mate is in a better position and to block!

        Changes for Adelaide

LRT looked good in defense against the cats when he bobbed up down there a few times . He reads it well and is excellent at plugging the holes. He probably wasn't manned up on a kew forward but looked much more at home in defense then he does in the forward line. ( not at all bagging the job he's been doing in the forward line, but this guy is and always will be a key defender first and foremost, and a bloody good one at that!) I think LRT may remind everyone of just how good of a defender he is against the Crows. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

If LRT and Walsh both have great games, will Grundy get his spot back?

            Changes for Adelaide

Of course. He takes number 1 or 2 opposition forward every week, and he's number 1 in the AFL for rebounds from defense. He's one of our most important players. A lot of his good work goes unnoticed, but his mistakes are always highlighted by some on here. Teddy's fantastic year has taken the spotlight off Reg, but Reg has had a fantastic year too IMO.

100% that's footy, also he's a key piece of the most stingy backline in the comp. Being finals you don't rock that boat unless it's with a forearm to a cats face

Walsh has to absolutely lock down Rutten and make him second guess joining a rebound attack by making himself dangerous.

Also i know we are trying to stretch them down back but please stop spoiling each other going for a mark in forward 50. I can already see Pyke and Walsh competing for the same ball and spoiling each other.

Well said and I totally agree. I am so proud of our defensive guys this year and the effort they've put in - I'm sure Reg is feeling pretty sheepish after his brain snap. Unfortunately the mistakes made by backmen are often more noticeable, especially in the last few years with the forward press. I don't think I'd swap our back 6 for anyone and hopefully they lead us onwards to victory this Saturday!

This happened after Grundy had his brain fade. I remember thinking at the time great piece of coaching by Horse. Already had an eye on the next week.

Keiran's spot on with his remarks in today's SMH:

Jack points to midfield as Swans fly into Crows' nest

Pretty simple - we've got to get first use of the ball out of the midfield and get it into the forward line as quick as possible. We're not going to defend our way to a win.

Footy's really a very simple game. Win the ball at the centre bounce, kick it towards your end of the ground, keep possession and kick a goal.

It's the other pesky team that gets in the way.

I was watching the replay of last week and he lead and marked really confidently early on but missed nailing the goals. This may have been because he was a little outside his distance. He can definitely kick well from a set shot. That was probably the most high intensity game he's played this year so if he can relax a bit and go back and steady and nail an early goal he might surprise the lot of us.

Let's hope so Lucky. But, I can't help feeling we are too top heavy in the forward line. I would prefer another small forward, especially if we are going to push Ben McGlynn through the midfield.

Pity that Jed Lamb has had an injury interrupted season. He could have been perfect for the job.

I too am concerned that we persist with a tall forward line, but in saying that we are not the only ones.

Collingwood has rushed Dawes back in for the finals. Dawes, this year, makes LRT look like Buddy Franklin.

Maybe, just maybe, the current in-vogue game style is to load your forward line with talls.
