a week ago, a magpie mate of mind asked me who I would rather play in the prelim (Eagles or Pies)? I said without a pause Collingwood and he seemed rather miffed that I was so quick to answer. The reason....even more joy and credence in beating your main threats on the way to a flag! I hope we play the hawks in the GF.

I just want the Hawks and Crows to belt the crap out of each other. I don't mind who we play because I think we're capable of beating both. Much rather go in as underdog if we play Hawks. We beat them in Launceston and they narrowly beat us at the SCG.....We can take it up to them.

With a couple of umpire decisions that were mistakes, according to Gieschen.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

All I can add is, lucky the Hawks supporter who's painting my house this week will have finished before the GF. Otherwise, dependent on the victor, either I'd get a really sloppy paint job ('hey - why are my windows now brown and yellow?') or he'd have a ladder mysterious collapse beneath him ('what does this lever do? Oops').

And I'd be questioning whether or not that brown and yellow on your windows is paint.

Well I'll be off to the Hawks vs Crows prelim tonight(wearing my swans colours for all to see), I'm joining Longmire on a scouting mission.

Well everybody, including those idiots at Channel 7 have the Hawks already in the GF.

I had the game recorded on delay (while I prepared dinner - my wife was studying) and some badly timed calls I refused to take made me think the Crows had won. And I was surprised to find that I was unhappy about that for the Swans' chances. The Crows have some unpredictability about them that Horse would find harder to plan for - and the Hawks just looked a bit spooked and undisciplined last night. Mainly, I want us to beat the Premiership favourites for our flag - thought the whole of Melbourne (with the exception of the South) will say it was because we got an extra day off. And I watched last night's game believing that we can win next week. It just required the same iron discipline we showed on Friday - with a bit better kicking for goal.

This is just so bloody exciting. I'd forgotten how intense Grand Final week is.

Watching the Swans and Pies replay, McVeigh was at his scintillating best. So excited about next Thursday

One thing that's really impressed me about McVeigh in this finals campaign is that he does not always take the first, hurried option. He has the patience (and the skill) to hold the ball for an extra second or two so that he can choose the best option. He's been very, very good of late.

Macca missed out in 2006. I've been thinking over the past few weeks that he's determined not to repeat that this time.

He played one of the best games he's ever played for us - the way he turned so many Collingwood players inside out was amazing. Well done Jarrad - I hope you've got a premiership medallion around your neck this time next week.

I'm watching the replay on Mate now and boy we were good but we need to get the forward entry right and not kick over our forwards heads when they lead to opposition players
