    Our Midfield

Again today on Game Day I hear someone say our midfield is not as talented as others but makes up for it with consistency. Well I think we have a very talented midfield.

    Adam Goodes Duel Brownlow Medalist

Josh kennedy All Australian, In contention for Brownlow

Ryan O'Keefe Ex All Australian, playing probably the best footy of career

Jude Bolton Playing like a youngster top quality mid

Craig Bird unheralded tagger and slips forward to kick important goals

Luke Parker young & up & coming

Lewis Jetta Winger who has kicked more goals then any other mid in the comp

Dan Hanneberry Rising Star Winner who has become a quality winger

Jarred McVeigh Co Captain & much underrated

Kieren Jack is one of the best in the comp his run and carry & burst goals are equal to any in
    the comp

Ben McGlinn takes a player out as a tagger and hurts going the other way very like Bolts as a player absolutely no fear

I think our mids are a very good unit and much maligned by saying they don't have the talent of other mids. I think it is a very talented and cohesive unit

    Our Midfield

As far as I'm concerned, they can ignore, denigrate, bag, under rate our midfield all they like! Will just be all the sweeter when we prove them wrong!

They'll only rate us come next Sunday when everyone wakes up and we've won the flag! We have a wonderful midfield, that is in little doubt.

I think the "someone" who made that daft comment was Trent Cotchin. Obviously a very talented player, but a bad career move, will come back to bite him on the bum.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Did he mention which other midfield groups he was referring to? Surely he didn't mean the Richmond midfield.

The one that has beaten us soundly the last couple of matches against them?

It was Trent Cotchin who made that comment. Given how his midfield has dominated ours over the last couple of years, you could understand his position. He also said that Hawthorn was slow. Which they are if you think about it beyond all their inside ball-winning ability.

I don't mind him making that comment at all. However I do mind when some ignorant nuffie who just realised we've got into the grannie starts running with this rubbish. If you can't tell the difference between Nick Smith and Alex Johnson, Lewis and Leroy Jetta, Hanners and ROK you can get @@@@@@ imo.

I liked how Hanners burst back into form in the PF.

We are not an overall 'fast' midfield either (of course with the exception of Jetta), but if we can handball as cleanly and as well under pressure as we did against Adelaide and Collingwood, then that certainly creates its own sort of 'speed', and we can use that, along with Jetta to really put their midfield under pressure. We need to expose their midfield's lack of overall speed wherever possible. Adelaide did it pretty well for large parts of the game on the weekend, and we need to do it even better, and for the whole game.

Yep I reckon the contested ball and clearances would be even. it's a matter of who spreads better. Richmond killed both our teams with that and their constant play-ons.
