Given the weather on saturday for our mighty bloods GF we have to take the bullet and go in smaller. I know how terrific pykey has been this year, but i think we definetly have to start parker up forward and omit pyke. If we have 2 ruckman we will be limited and LRT can ruck so im just not sure if we can go in with 2 ruckman. Before all those who are gonna get defensive on pyke, these decisions can cost GF's.

The only player you'd think would even be in the mix is Armstrong. He's pretty much guaranteed to be one of the emergencies anyway. There'd be no point dropping Pyke for someone like Walsh or Spangher. TDL might be in the mix for the final emergency spot but I've never been impressed with him in the wet. Would rather have Pyke's hustle and bustle.
In terms of "in-form" players, the only two smaller players who might be considered would be Lamb or Harry. But it would be unheard of to bring a debutant or a second game player into the team for Grand Final.Comment

Would be very very stiff on Pykey to go with Mummy + LRT rucking. Would be surprised if we did so but understandable given the conditions. The G obviously remains immaculate even in the wet so not as much of an issue as one might expect. Horse spoke re: McGlynn this week of being clinical and emotionless at the selection table, so if they feel this is the way to go, they will. I think though we will stick to the talls structure that has got us to the big one and remain unchanged. If we did go small, would expect Armstrong in as sub, Parker to start and crash in.Twitter: @tp_roseComment

I would bring in parker. IMO this could cost us the GF if we left Pyke out. It would be heartbreaking given how well he has been for us this year, but if we want to win we have to bite the bullet. I would go with a Parker, Morton, Reid, Bird, Goodes, with Jetta and Bolton rotating through it.LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

I think that our two ruckman structure would be thrown enough that I'd expect us to lose if we dropped Pyke. Right now we have a Geelong bloke and another from Canada and it may be wet - perfect. Stuffing around with our structure - particularly if LRT needs to drop back if Teddy doesn't see the game out or is being given a bath by Buddy would be a disaster.
Long term, if we drop Pyke I wonder where he'll play next year? After the whole ABC News tonight was about his success, pride would force him to walk wouldn't it - and I presume the club was asked if he was a certainty before it was filmed?
I really wish Gopher had been fixed as we really could have used him in the wet.Comment

Given the lack of ready replacements, I would still include Pyke in the team. Armstrong has missed a lot of senior footy, and now's not really the time to chuck him in. Mike's in good form, and has guts. We'll need them. If it's wet, he will rotate in the ruck with Mummy, and rest by filling in the hole in front of Franklin. If McGlynn was ready to come back, you could possibly make a case for excluding Mike, but in this instance, I favour playing the guy in form.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Whilst I understand what the OP and Mark McLure mean, I'd be very hesitant to change a winning combination - its gotten us this far and Pykey has been very important to our structure. I am a bit torn though - one smaller guy might be handy if it is wet. But we'd miss Pykey and I think, on balance, he stays.Comment

Dropping Pyke means LRT's role changes.
He has been so important lately, and considerably more effective than when he was saddled with the dual defensive forward/2nd ruck position. I would not risk this is a Grand Final.Comment
