    The telecast/replay - a different game

Ive always thought that Aussie Rules was/is a different game live than on tele, and this premiership has just confirmed that for me. I'm watching the replay (again) and you just see so many different things. At the game, and from where I was sitting, it was clear that some players were having blinders; AJ, Hanners, LRT and Pyke amongst them, but it wasn't until I watched it on the TV that I noticed just how much work Mal, Sammy, O'Keefe, Bird and others did. Basically it was a brilliant, all-round team effort. No passengers, even though we were the walking wounded by the final siren.

A disclaimer too, there were more players I noticed at the ground that were brilliant, and the same for the TV list, but I would have ended up listing the entire team by name if I'd named each one!

It definitely is! At the game I tend get caught up in watching only the player with the ball and miss the other stuff. Until I watched a replay of last week's game, I thought Morton had a shocker - completely missed all the chasing, tackling and defensive work he did.

Haven't watched a replay of the GF yet, but I'm sure it'll seem like a different game than the one I saw live on Saturday!!!

Yep differenet game - you still managed to name my Troy Luff vote winners.

The weather doesn't seem half bad on tv. Many of the Hawk frees are still soft though.

I totally agree. There were no passengers and very few mistakes made by all the players. Even our misses were close. To single out one player for the Norm Smith seemed unfair although you could not argue with ROK's game ,neither could you find anything wrong with the entire team's effort. Both Mc Veigh and Pyke had the best game of their season and Mal was sensational . Like you say,you could go through the whole team and say much the same thing and I guess thats how you win a Grand Final!

I reckon what won us the game was the ability of our "bottom 10" to still influence the game. Their Bottom 10 on the day were not bad they were horrible mainly due to what we were able to do to them. Roughy, Birchall, Gibson and puopolo had shockers. I went to the sydney vs essendon game last year and that is game that you needed to be at the ground to feel and see what was really happening although we lost, some of the stuff that Goodes did off the ball to get Reid into the game was outstanding and things you wouldn't have seen watching on TV.

And they seem to have edited the telecast with an idiot running out onto the field - don't recall that at the ground.

Same here. Me and my old man were watching the replay for the 25th time literally and we both didn't notice it. Strange!

I totally agree that you see different things at the ground compared with the telecast. I haven't yet watched the replay and am looking forward to it for that reason. For example. at the ground I didn't realise that Goodes had been injured, I couldn't see the bench where the players were getting treatment and didn't pick it up on the field. I am just amazed at the game he played now that I know. Re your comment above, are you saying the idiot is shown or not shown on the telecast? I certainly saw it at the ground and it caused the umpire to hold up the centre bounce for a long time while security got the nitwit off. This made the drama at the end even more nail-biting - the woman next to me was begging for them to blow the siren but I knew we were going to have a long quarter because the clock had been stopped for this holdup. But oh the joy when it eventually did sound!!

Didn't see it live either. Looks like the idiot missed his TV mark. They didn't even feature him at any point, not a single camera shot. So he gets a 7 year ban from the MCG, and a massive fine. Twit.

I have told anyone who would listen that this game was won above the shoulders, The concentration involved was incredible. Kudos to Hanners. Massive kudos to AJ who may need to learn a few manners, but his coolness down back bodes well for us and the future. Leadership by Goodes was terrific, guided Mitch to his goals; everyone played their part, and even when mistakes were made, not one head dropped and they got up and had another go. (This may be a life lesson I should learn.....mutter).

I am full of food, coffee and overload of tv. And I go back into the fray to absorb the second half. Again.

                      Spot on , Mel !

No team ever gets 22 candidates for the NSM , but EVERY SINGLE PLAYER made significant contributions to the win. That's not emotion talking, it's fact.

                        Too true mel.
I hardly spotted rok on the ground. Was surprised to hear him named NS.
But all the others I noticed.
Haven't watched a full replay yet

I had Hanners or Pyke pencilled in as the Norm Smith medalists at the game and on watching my third replay I think Hanners should have gotten it.

Speaking of replay-- anyone know whether there will be one on FTA? Guess which doofus didn't set his machine (and doesn't have Fox).

I know or at least expect it's online at afl.com, but the bigger screen would be nice. Cheers.
