McVeigh, Malceski and Shaw all played stellar games for the GF. New club policy

I decided not to shave tonight in the hope of getting a gig next year.

Don't forget the permanently bearded Goodesy. Jetta rocked a thick beard for a while too.

Then Hanners and AJ wouldn't qualify to play. Bum fluff would be the best either could possibly manage with those baby faces!

I need to print this page out & show it to my partner. I've been saying since the GF that I need to grow a Mal/Rhyce NedKellyish-style madbeard in celebration.

Thus far the concept is being vehemently vetoed.

Funnily enough some of the Swans' best looking, most charming and highly intelligent fans have been sporting beards all season.....

Hehe - on this topic and its relation to the better half. I am trying very hard to teach my lovely other half the ins and outs of AFL.

She has sat through a few games with me this year on telly, and she watched very enthusiastically the grand final in Canberra whilst I was down in Melbourne, with lots of excited texts sent to and fro.... but they were nearly all about 'Beardman' and how awesome he is! About the only two players she can identify are Malceski and Shaw, as I keep correcting her when she calls then 'Beardman' in excitement when we have watched matches together!

The beards better still be around for 2013, or I know one girl that will be very unhappy when I take her to her first live AFL game!!!

I haven't shaved since the GF, and hadn't shaved for a couple of days before that too. I've been justifying it as a tribute to Mal, but Goody Stella thinks it's just because I'm on holidays and lazy!

After the GF I got a text from a friend who is a massive league fan that said "Great game, that bushranger's a legend!"
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Actually Hanners does sport a fairly significant Viking beard at times, mostly due to laziness. but I have been impressed!
                          AJ is still flully though.

Hanners beard reminds me of Arnie's beard in "Kindergarten Cop". Don't know why - might be the shape of his face combined with the stubble.

Will the club be awarding a medal for "beard of the year"? It would be a tough call. If you go for a consistently strong performance then I have Shaw winning it. Malceski was the best on GF day though. For "most improvement to appearance" then I think Jetta's beard lent him an air of distinguishment and gravitas that suited him very well.

I had a chance to have a beer with Shaw on Saturday night. I asked "can the beard go now?" and he replied "I don't know. Maybe it has to stay for next year".
