Morton - how high can he soar in 2013?

I watched the interview with Kerian Jack during the week and there is a clip of Morton in a two on one against the pies where he was going high for the mark but then brought the ball down for LRT to run onto and nail a 6pointer !

obviously Mitch also made a tremendous two on one special against the Hawks where he tapped it forward for Jack

Those two plays have had a big impact on my thinking re Mitch............plus his finals series in general........plus Horse saying he was in the team no matter the injury to McGlynn.

the two......two on ones are a great indication of the options that Mitch now feels he has at his disposal......its not all about him anymore.......

this is a massive call but there is not reason except his own that will stop him from going onto to scoring 30 goals in 2013.

Mitch has it all before him and he has the class and natural goal sense of any small forward in the comp and he can play on mid talls or small defenders........

Mitch go forth and conquer !


PS seriously Reid, Tippett, Goodes, Morton, Jetta, Rohan, McGlynn, LRT, Pyke etc etc etc rotating thru that forward line is lethal !

Most of his first grade games for us are finals, no? Has done amazingly well, smart player, has bought into the Bloods ethos, can mark and crumb, has enough speed, and makes our forward line very powerful indeed. Also does his share of midfield work.

Totally agree. His pressure acts since he's been in the side have been outstanding, and he is an extremely skillful player. The real beauty of him in the forward line is that he is a completely different player to what we already have. Reid and Tippett are high markers, Goodes a burst leading forward, LRT is a bit of both, McGlynn the traditional crumbing forward, Rohan a line breaker off half forward, Pyke and Mumford who are comfortable rotating through the forward line, and now Morton who is a strong mark for his size and comfortable on the ground. If we get Tippett (and it looks very, very likely) it means we can release LRT into the backline at times, which is going to be important in games against teams with 2 or more string, high marking forwards. Exciting times ahead.

I like having Morton in the team as a forward because he is a potential game-winner (he was exciting at Richmond for a while too). However, if Tippett comes in next year and the rest of our team is fit I am not sure that we will be able to find a place for him in the 22.

Can tell you Satch that MM still looked like a stunned mullett at the B&F. Don't worry, he will not take anything for granted. He looked like a man who has found his calling. Fine by me!

Don't forget his clutch mark and goal at the end of the third quarter against Adelaide. They had just goaled and were trying to fightback. His goal was massive.

I would be very surprised if we see much of Rohan next year. Michael Barlow's at Freo had a similar injury in 2009 or 2010 and he was unable to recapture his best until this year. Even though his surgery was successful he had a large number of hamstring, groin and calf problems in that leg. So, if Rohan has a similar path back that should give Morton a good chance to cement his spot.

I'm backing Mitch to add to our list our highly successful rehabilitations.

I really like what I saw of him late this season, as long as he keeps his feet on the ground I think he will be a very important addition to this side for many years to come. He is a bit different from some of our other players, a little bit of a Nick Davis type in that he is a potential match winning player and they are hard to come by.

Boyoboy we're looking good for next season.....

Agree re Rohan too, limited appearances next year. If he's back in full swing by 2014 that will be a good result, though some players never really come back from am injury like that unfortunately....

A lot has been made of Rohan speaking with Barlow and Michael Voss to ensure he doesn't make the same mistakes they made in coming back from broken legs. I don't think he'll come back next year in the form he was showing prior to his injury, but I hope he avoids the setbacks those guys had.

I sure agree with you Bloody, but he did after all break that leg very early into the season, and he has been doing every thing right as far as I can see. He has remained totally involved in the club. Very smart and basically sensible young man between the ears. Actually he can be a bit charming which is not a description I give out lightly. Nanna has spoken.

The Mitch at Richmond was a confidence player, and when confident, he was a damaging forward, but put himself before the team. I.e. tried to kick around corners to often.

Come the later part of 2012 at the Swans, he really made attempts to be totally unselfish, i.e. tackle, chase and bring other players into the game.

Hopefully in 2013, we see a little bit more of his natural flair. Combine that with the bloods culture and he could end up a beauty.
