For those whose interest in the Swans extends beyond the last week/year/decade . . .

Couldn't decide on what title I should put on this thread. I was torn between "Further Swans Revisionism" or "Another Past Swans Recruiting-Guru speaks out" but eventually decided on the above. Anyway the article is

In it Rob Snowdon is reported as saying the Watters/Begovich trade "added value to the club" and that they were "two players who helped to establish the club's successful culture." Which was news to me because I thought Maxfield and Kirk were more often credited with the Swans much vaunted Bloods culture.
I wonder if next week he reveals what benefits the Considine/Werner deal brought to the Swans?
Of course Snowden's comments follows the revelation from earlier this year by Ron Thomas's sale of Carey and Longmire helped win us the 2012 grand final.

In reading the article, there is no mention of the "Bloods" culture, only the successful culture that ended with a GF appearance in 1996. Given that we have now played in 4 GFs in 17 seasons, that is a pretty successful culture I would think. This doesn't mean that they were the only force behond the club being more successful, only that they were a part of it.

Amazing that in 1993, pick number 1 could be exchanged for two fringe players from the premiership team. If this happened today, we could acquire pick 1 for Trent Dennis-Lane and Tony Armstrong! But only as recent as a few years ago, trading the number 1 pick for arguably the competition's best player at the time was balked at by the club holding the coveted asset, which at the time made me wonder if we'll ever see the #1 pick ever change hands again.

I may indeed be drawing an incorrect conclusion (I'm more prone to that, than heir-splitting).
But after hearing from Thomas and now Snowden, can you not imagine that when the latest Daniher debut's for the Bombers, Tuddy will be saying how important Neville Field's was to the Swans in the long term, because it helped ensure the move to Sydney.
At which point some RWO Candide will write a creative little post agreeing.
And why not, there's no known upper limit to the number of people that can jump onto a bandwagon and claim credit, after all Dr E congratualed himself on his part in the '05 victory.

I think Brynnes husband claiming a part of it is a slightly long bow!

"Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

There's much more media scrutiny now, even the Gillette AFL trade period (lol) has taken on an identity of its own. Jetta, for example, should be worth pick #1 if he were on the market. What guarantee you'll get a player of his quality with that pick? It's no certainty, but we'd never secure the first pick if he wanted out.

Teams are more scared than ever to make the mistake of trading away those precious top 5 picks in fear of a supporter backlash if the pick they traded away nabs a future star. Fans of those struggling clubs hold on to the hope that those picks will be the saviour they're waiting for, and the coaches feed off that hope because it's easier to sell a dream than a reality.

Does that mean that Tuddy would be seen to be "pumping up his own tyres".
