I was at a management seminar in St.Kilda in 1999 and Stan Alves was a guest speaker. If memory serves me correctly he coached the Saints for about 150 games; He spoke about one % ers and quoted a very interesting fact; in every game he coached, the saints won when the statistic of one % was 233 or more. If it was below that by any amount they lost. He classified one % ers as smothers, sheperds, knock ons, spoils and one other that I just can't remember.

Any how my favourite 1% was Jetts tap-on to Hanners for the goal that started our run in the last 1/4.

Morton's 1-2 and Jetta's tap to Hanners for what they represent. The significance of Morton's is obvious. But if Jetta's doing stuff like crashing in to tap the ball forward at risk to his own legs, that you know we're going to be okay. It's a sign of how far he's come from the flashy nervous kid of a couple of years ago.

The ones I remember from the game are Matners run down, and Mitch's 2 on 1. I probably was a bit mitch bias because I wanted him to do well.

But really, Goodes playing a blinder with a stuffed knee was what won us the game. That is folklore stuff. Like Dipper and and his broken rib.

Definitely Jettas tap on to Hanners. When i talk to friends about what changed the game i say that moment. Not captured on the footage well enough. At the game he was behind and had to make a supreme effort to get there first.

Honourable mention to AJ for the Sewell smother

All the above and for me Mattener's tackle and basically winning the contest was my highlight.

Though props to Goodes for several bumps he lay in the dying minutes in defence on 1 leg. Buddy was one, he just threw himself at everything. LEADER

Every time I watch the game again I'm amazed by AJ's efforts throughout. He was a large part of our rebound.

But Hanners mark was the moment for me. I seriously thought Hale had it then he straightened up and Hanners kinda fell out of the middle of the pack holding the ball. The lift that gave the rest of the team almost immediately showed.

                  Where do we start?

Goodes, not once, but twice getting the ball to Morton for goals!
Goodes on no good legs kicking a goal!
Mattner in the last minutes chase down and keeping the ball where it needed to be!
Morton beating 2 players to get the ball out in front of Jack for a goal!
For mine, Jettas tap on to Dan Han for a goal!

                  I love them all!!!!!!

Marks, kicks, handballs & tackles are not 1% ers. Sorry to be a killjoy!

Favourite 0.1 % was Clinton Young falling over in the Goal Square.

Favourite 1%ers are Goodes and teddy playing great roles for the team with only 2 good legs between them. The stuff of legend

Not only Marty's tackle, but his brilliantly disguised attempt to stay in the field of play and not run the ball over the line deliberately.

Okay, what is your definition of a 1%er?

They are right though, a 1%'r isn't a noted stat.

So.....you're saying that Goodesy's little kick off the ground (which is a stat) to Morton for a goal isn't a 1%er?

Can we change the thread title to "favourite effort of the Grand Final". I assume you can place any piece of play under that heading.
