    Dan the Swan

It is believed the Swans have flagged their intention to re-sign Hannebery, whom they view as a future leader.

The 77-gamer could command more than $550,000 a year in his next deal, making him one of the top earners in the league for his age, entering only his fifth season.

Sydney is confident there is little threat the man taken with a bargain-priced pick No.30 in the 2008 national draft will be poached by a Melbourne club.

"TWELVE months after the Sydney Swans crashed out of the 2011 premiership race in a semi-final defeat to Hawthorn, midfielder Dan Hannebery feels he owes a debt to his teammates."

We should re-sign him asap for top dollar. Dan, plus a few of his young teammates, are the future of the club.

Surprised that it's news that we intend to resign the guy who almost won the Norm Smith in a premiership winning GF a month or so ago.

It would be news if we DIDN'T intend to resign him.

Yep, just filling newspaper columns by stating the obvious.

The guy is a gun and will only get better. Great recruiting at pick 30, might do some research on who was picked before him when it's to hot to go outside this summer, always an interesting exercise.

As we can't trade him for Folau, I suppose we better sign him up long term.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

Yeah, I felt the same sense of loss with Folau.

Awww Dear little Ernest. I agree completely. News would be if he wasn't signed on. Hope his management ignore his protestations that he would play for nothing!

I remember feeling major panic when he injured (and then re-injured a few games later) his shoulder early in his career. Right from the get-go, he was a keeper. When you look up "Gun" in an encyclopaedia, there should be a pic of our Dan.

Hand-picked by Roosy while still having a year to go at school (thanks Paul). A quality human being to boot (he was so good with my kids at a members' coaching clinic).

Meanwhile, the worst bit of press he has ever received was after falling into someone's fence during schoolies celebrations (after which some wag on here christened him "Humpty Dumpty" - love that too).

Can't wait to see Humpty Dumpty, in red and white, lifting the 2016 premiership cup at the MCG.

He should be paid more than Tippett. Lock him in. For a long time.

The article says that his contract expires at the end of next year. So he's not currently unsigned.
