Adelaide gives up first 2 draft Picks

Adelaide have given up their first 2 draft picks voluntarily. Improves our draft options. Will the AFL go easier on them now. Maybe the Tippet thing wasn't Sydney's fault!

I imagine the real reason for giving up this years picks....20 and 54 relatively ordinary picks.... is that with out all the concession picks etc, they will have better picks next year and beyond.

To pass it off as a 'gesture of goodwill'...is laughable.

Improves us by 1 so it must be a good move.

AFL website has a new draft order just out and we move up to 22 picks in the 40s go up 1 and picks in the 60s go up 2. Nice result, there will be more to choose from at every pick!

I can only think that they reckon first round pick will be the penalty so better to give up 22 this year than say 12-14 in 2013. Pick 54 is starting to get into hope territory so no big loss.

              Absolutely.

If/when they slide in the next few years due to all of this, their picks will be top 10 picks, not 20 and 54. Just a pre-emptive strike by them to make the best of a bad situation.

'Gesture of goodwill', give me a break...

Since when can you choose your own penalty?

Indeed. Soiunds like a major suck up or they were told by the AFL to do it. I favour the latter.

The Adelaide board on Bigfooty is worth a look, think it's the thread about "what do we do with pick 20". They are in meltdown over what's happening.

They are all in love with a local Ben Kennedy who they hoped would slip through to them with pick 20 but could now slip to us at pick 22.

The angst being felt that BIG BAD Sydney could snare both their draft hope and Tippett is hilarious.

Surely the AFL aren't stupid. Given the precedent they set with Carlton & Greg Williams, surely they will see that giving up 2 mid-range picks is giving up very little for breaking the rules. Hopefully some harsher penalties will follow ...
