I too was recently looking at the teams success rate, but with the team nickname as the variable*.
In the 71 years as Swans (1932-2002) we won 1 VFL premiership
In the 66 years as Bloods (1877-1931 and 2003-2012) we won 2 AFL, 2 VFL and 5 VFA premierships
* It's for a blog on early Swans history I working on
And 2002....I think we lost 6 games or so by single figures....and couldn't buy a free kick! ;-0 So neither of those years were nearly as bad as they look by ladder position.....
'02 got us Jarrad McVeigh, Nick Davis, Sean Dempster, Nick Malceski, Craig Bolton, Paul Bevan....and, er....Josh Thewlis.....6 premiership players in one year....compared to 2009 Shane Mumford, Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Gary Rohan, Lewis Jetta and Sam Reid. Only 4 Premiershp players there......SO FAR!!! :-0
"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005
If memory serves me well 2009 was the year of the 1 point loss to the undefeated Saints at the SCG. About the only loss I've ever walked away from (almost) happy, we were mighty brave that day. Jesse White played pretty well too.
