    Swannies have last laugh

I haven't yet seen this story posted by Jon Ralph in the Hun this morning

Very interesting take on it.....and it sounds like at least one journo rates our forward line as being pretty dangerous.

Interesting: Jon said we have "an already power-packed forward line" yet I recall that same forward line struggling for most of the season.

Guys, we do have a good forward line, we just don't have that one power forward as Sam Reid hasn't developed into that yet, we were still the fifth best attacking side this year (pretty sure it was fifth). Our forward line was always just rotating with different players, we had multiple 30+ goal kickers, more 20+ goals kickers and almost everyone (except the backline) had 10+ goals.

Yeah was about to say. 2011 goal kicking accuracy was shocking, then one preseason later we're right near the top! Not complaining!

I think if they expand the number of forward positions from 6 to 9 we may just fit them all in! I actually like what I read of Membrey, something a bit different but how do you fit him in?

The forward line functioned better as the year progressed so by finals time it was actually quite good. If all the players we expect to step upactually do then there's going to be some seriously good players in the ressies.

Not a bad position to be in though!

Our forward line was adequate for most of the year, but you only have to watch round 23 again against the Cats to see we need Tippett. Even though we had slightly more of the ball, we only had six marks inside 50, to the Cats 18. We got killed by Taylor blanketing Goodes, Walsh being anonymous, and Reid being triple teamed. It is time Goodes played the small crumbing forward that this board has been crying out for, which he is more than capable of as per the final quarter goal in the GF, and it will be less rigorous on his ailing body.

The challenge for the Swans will be to not become to Tippett-centric.
Expectation of big bags of goals should be dismissed, as I think (hope) he'll play a team orientated role and often be used as a decoy

What about Garlett while we're getting steals in 2012? http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/wa-...-1226532833645

I mean he's an 18 year old who hasn't learned discipline or grown up yet.....so shoot me down with a feather!

What his coach said is interesting. "this kid is quite clearly in the top-five players, on talent, in the country...I'm staggered we're even having this conversation....I'm not saying that he's an angel, but show me exactly what he's done that's been horrible....AFL clubs spend millions and millions of dollars on their footy departments...and not one of those 18 clubs is going to back themselves to put the kid in their culture and give him an opportunity"

Well send him to the Culture Club! There are a couple of West Australians in Mitch Morton and Lewis Jetta who used to have discipline issues :-) They might be able to give him a hand.

I'm sure the team has enough players to sort this kid out.

It does show you how difficult it is to get onto an AFL Club list. Talent alone doesn't count anymore.

Wasn't Garlett at AIS at the same time as MOL? Surely we must have had a word with him to get his thoughts on the kid. It will be interesting to see if he does get picked up.

I think Essendon are going to chance Garlett

Good article, I was thinking about the forward structure when all are on board and fit ... I'm sure Goodesy will adapt quickly to the "small" crumbing forward role!!!

One thing I know about the Swans is if he doesn't play the role Horse wants from him then he'll get to know Crouchy quite well of a weekend.

He showed in the GF to Gibson's horror that he's quite adept at crumbling the pack and kicking goals.

Really looking forward to Sammy taking that next step next year. Our forward line looks like a scary proposition for the opposition in the next few years.
