    Father-Son wins and losses

It's summer and not much AFL happening so need somethging to exercise the mind. Oscar Mattner got me thinking about the F-S rule and the importance of that 100th game to make sons eligible for drafting to the Swans.

There will always be hits and misses, here's a few I can think of

Mattner 98 for Crows, 100+ for us WIN
Shaw 94 for Pies, 90ish for us now? WIN in 2013
Tippett 103 for Crows, lets hope for 100+ for us :-)

Lockett only 98 for us but only has daughters?
Nick Davis 97 for us LOSS

As long as Nick Davis keeps living in Sydney we can "academy" his sons like Roosey's son(s)

I am trusting at least one of Kell's boys will want to Swan around.
Dunks already has his boy on the horizon, I think he is 16 now and apparently going great guns.
Stuey's boy would be about 13 now, but I don't think he is going to footy it.
MickyO's lad may be interested in about 15 years time.
And by the look in his eye, Lewis Jetta Jnr may be a keeper in about 17 years time.

I am planning to live for another 25 years, hope I can keep my brain operating long enough to see a good harvest.

I'll defend the journo here. Sure the headline and lead par is a bit sensationalist (and could well have been written by the subs) but the fact is that, going by the quotes attributed to Dunks, its a fair assessment of what could happen.

His lukewarm relationship with the Swans takes the imperitive out of sending his boy off to Sydney. The lad has already knocked back a fantastic opportunity to stay nearer to home.

The good sign is that he was in the change rooms after the Granny so he is obviously a fan of the red and white. If he wants to come to Sydney and he turns out to be good enough, then he most likely will.

It was written by Neil Cordy. You'd reckon he'd have a pretty good idea.

Sounds pretty tenuous to me..not much behind it.

I'm not sure if him being in the rooms after the GF necessarily means he is a Swans fan, it may purely mean that we can have some faith that our recruiters are doing everything in their power to get him interested in the club.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                        Dunkley says

"I don't hate the place but I've moved on"
                        and
"In a perfect world he'd get a Victorian club"

On the other hand, AnthonyD reported very positive feelings about the Swans in an interview a while back . . . . but he still sent both his sons to Essendon. So perhaps the fathers feelings aren't everything?

I have to admit that I'm with those who think it's not that sensationalist, really.

Disappointing to hear, though, assuming there's some truth to it. Father Son picks really can be a bit of a free kick and if he's a big lad that's already played senior footy in a decent comp and been a leader at state level it would be nice if it was all pretty much a forgone conclusion.

Regardless of how good Josh might be, it's sad to see a great of the club, a Hall of Famer, feeling this way. Hopefully the club can rebuild these bridges and bring Dunks back into the Bloods family. Josh may be the way to do that, but I'd like to see it happen sooner.
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

I am also sad that Dunkers feels that way. But if the article is true and I have no doubt it is then he might not come back until Roos no longer has anything to do with the club. coaches have to make big decisions and Dunkers wasn't a part of Roos' long term plan. It would be huge stretch if Dunkers thinks he could have been involved in the 2005 Premiership anyway. He was definitely at the end of his career when he finished, maybe one more year and then it would have been curtains anyway so that only puts him at 2003. Roos was building a list that would win a premiership three & a half years after he took over this was realised, yet the premiership probably came a year earlier than expected just like this year. I can't see what Dunkers is so upset about still. Certainly to be upset at the time when the emotions are still raw is one thing but to carry a grudge this long seems strange. Maybe it wasn't done with a lot of care?
