    Morabito does same knee again!

I know this is a Swan's forum but I just had to post my best wishes to this kid. My understanding is that he re-injured his left knee in a tackle at training today. If so, it will be Morabito's third time for his left knee. Tragic news for another young kid who I'd like to see up and running. Similar excitement to our Gary Rohan.
...and a special mention to one of our former assistant coaches in Ross Lyon. It's not often that you see a Senior Coach drive a player to a hospital. It's little wonder Ross was extremely popular with the Swan's players, particulary our midfield who he coached.

There's a non-Swans forum too and that seems like the place for this thread.

I agree with you on Morabito though. This would be his third knee reco if it's bad and that puts huge question marks over his future. I thought he was a real gun as a kid so I hope he's ok.

Bad luck for the kid and you have to feel something for the Freo fans. We have a few young blokes on our list that we all gush over and it would be similar if one of them went down for the third time.

As for actually discussing it, I can only assume that it was posted on the RWO Swans chat. If that's the case wgaf, it's the off season and valid footy news. If we are actually discussing if we should talk about it at all, then wtf?

No problem here, I was just responding to MightyBloods' comment. It sounded like he/she didn't know about the other forum pages.

IIRC Morabito was a very high draft pick too that they had very high hopes for so it must be a massive blow.

He looked old in the games he played in 2011 I think it was. Had a bit of a young Adam Goodes about him, kinda looks like him a bit too.

Horrid news for the lad, if he has done his ACL again. It must be incredibly tough to keep doing the rehabilitation when, as soon as you get close, it happens again. And I am pretty sure he did his second one while still on the comeback from his first. So it has been a constant period of rehab for him. I thought Malceski had done it tough, with three ruptured ACL's in his career. But at least he got back to playing senior football between each one.

The other challenge with players who have had even one traditional reco, let alone multiple ones, is that each time they take a piece of tendon from a hamstring, or somewhere else, there has to be some knock-on effect on those areas. Many players have made moderately successful comebacks from reconstructions but then have been plagued with hamstring problems for the rest of their career.

Might be time for the poor bastard to go for the LARS. Or at the very least find a new surgeon, because this one isn't doing the job. 2010 he last played I believe. This will make it three full years out of the game. Nearly impossible to get back from that.

He's got a chance. Mike Pyke did OK with 24 years out of the game.

This is one of those really sad stories. I hope he can come back from it and be a very good player for them.

I agree with all the comments here and am very sad for the lad. I am also very sad for football as this kid could be an absolute star. He was showing just how good he is just before his first injury. Time for LARS I think and a Mal's surgeon.

The story today is that he has opted for the LARS Surgery, which I think is a good thing. Certainly psychologically. Three years in rehap is a bit too much. Whatever the outcome, at least he can see progress from the start and a realistic chance to play this year.

For all of the 'risky' labelling attributed to the LARS, there seems to be just as many regular ACL failures as LARS failures. The youngster, Woodward from Hawthorne, just did his second ACL a few days ago.

Liz' comment about problems associated with taking a tendon from your body in the traditional ACL is right. I had an ACL reco in 1990 done by North Sydney Sports Medicine. They replaced the ACL with part of my patella tendon. The ACL part was fine, but then suffered patella tendinitis for around 10 years. Was constantly on antiiflammatories to keep it under control. They probably had a lot of this sort of problem, so switched to using hamstring tendons. But I still see it a robbing Peter to pay Paul.
