I find Twitter to be a fantastic way to folllow obscure sports and teams.

As a fan of the Luton Town Hatters, San Fancisco Giants (I know, not exactly obscure) and the Gordon Rugby Club, Twitter is a great way to stay in touch with all that is happening with those teams. I know about evey game they play and whenever they are playing there is always a range of people tweeting to a certain hashtag. After a short while you can work out a handful of people that are voices worth following to get the info you want.

Just search for what you are looking for and check out a few of the posters and hashtags they are posting to.

I also find it a great way to follow sports of all kinds. A good example was the Mundine v. Geale fight last week. I didn't wantto pay the money to get the footage and it was too late to go to the pub but staying tuned to Twitter meant I knew what was happening blow by blow.

IMHO - Twitter = good and Facebook = evil.

          Brilliant.

Hey Sharp 9 before you contact the AFL- some background. The AFL has just cancelled its contract with Live Sport and is promising a new international Internet broadcast partner to be announced soon. Some people think this will be Telstra.

FWIW I thought Live Sport did a reasonable job, despite the odd glitch (like broadcasting the wrong game). For about $100-$120 a season you got every game live online, plus replay.

If you want to pre-emptively complain about Telstra, go ahead.

Plus, not to accuse you of being Kiwi-centric, but everyone outside Australia who wants to watch AFL is in the same situation as you. It's not just a problem for the Shaky Isles!

Sorry SOH, not true...only NZ is affected. The quote (in my first post) is "AFLTV is the only product that allows you to watch every minute of every game, from anywhere in the world (excluding Australia and NZ). In 2013 each of the 405 AFL games will be available live or on demand via your desktop, tablet and mobile." So, um, er, that's my problem. One would like to think they are not complete idiots and that they have a viable plan for NZ....but then, as I may have said before, in NZ we do not get to see ONE SINGLE GAME live on TV prior to the GF. We get one game A WEEK and it is delayed until 11.00 pm Tuesday - so I'm not holding my breath. guess I may have to get one of the protocols that makes the web think you are in America...guess I could get Netflix too, than. NZ has no service like that.

Rightster has won the AFL global broadcast rights. Er, except NZ. I expect Telstra will do that, just to make sure Kiwis have the chance to enjoy the unique Telstra experience.

Aussie Rules fans can rejoice as the Australian Football League (AFL) has chosen Rightster to launch live AFLTV, a subscription service providing live and on-demand access to AFL games outside of Australia and New Zealand. Rightster says that this service will be the only international offering where users can access every single AFL match live and on-demand for the coming season.
AFL hasn't announced yet, but here's a report.

For those on Twitter looking for Swans players to follow, I have this list. It's due for a tidy up, along with my other lists, but I think that every player that I've started following I've also added to the list.

Er, right so that clears everything up then! Maybe they are intending to do the sort of deal where you have to have your broadband with Telstra in order to the afl stream. But there is no telstra in NZ. I wonder are Telstra the owners/major shareholders of Telecom (NZ) or 2Degrees...anyone know?

Actually can someone tell me how you watch a live stream in Australia? Is it just on the afl.com.au site....or can you only do it through an app on 3G? (or maybe 4G now)....I just had it in the back of my head somewhere that you couldn't use Wi-Fi

                      I seem to recall when I last lived in Aussie...2010...that it a was a bigpondsport site...but I can't find that now. :-(
