Thanks Ugg and Liz. You always give us the kind of report we love - with your observations on how our future stars are shaping up.
Where can you see Lamb finding a spot in our senior team? Would he be of any value as a sub? We already have Bolton, Morton and McGlynn looking to keep places in the forward line and Parker and no doubt Mitchell when he is fit, trying to claim places in the middle. No room for the Lamb!!Comment

Thanks ugg, terrific report.
And I would like to acknowledge all the encouragement I received re my lunch date. Three of us organising our seating arrangements for the coming season is not exactly scintillating, but we enjoyed ourselves. One has to work around business hours etc.
ugg, glad you also noted the striking similarities between the Richards Bros. They don't exactly look alike until they move and then it is positively uncanny. Yet another succession plan in action. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

I absolutely agree with Ugg's comments re Lamb. He is going to keep our midfielders minds on the job this year..also have expectations that Towers will develop nicely. He did some nice things yesterday. Both brothers did ok.I thought Jack a bit more advanced than Xav but both have solid futures ..Fun watching a match from ground level for the first time for a few years;brings a renewed respect for how fit, tough and smart current players need to be (and how much my eyesight has deteriorated..hard to pick details from opposite side) Great report Ugg, you're a champion!Comment

Thanks Ugg and Liz. I am very excited about some of the boys we have drafted in the last 2 years. Last years draft seem to be coming along well and I am glad that Lockyer is finally on the park even though he is very short on match fitness. Wonderful to hear that Lamb, Lloyd, Towers & co have continued along the same path as in the earlier trials.Comment

In the short term, that's where I think Lamb will be playing. He played his junior footy as a forward, and was one of the best forwards in his draft year. But in the long term IMHO the coaches see him as a midfield prospect who can both play inside and oustide. As you've pointed out it's going to be tough finding a spot for him in the seniors unless injuries/suspensions hit the midfield/forward brigade (touch wood).Comment

I think the role that Lamb might be immediately best placed to fill is that currently taken by Bird. Whether he has the ability to play the same defensive forward roles that Bird has done so well in, only time will tell. But they have similar attributes (notwithstanding the fact that Bird played his underage footy as an onballer).Comment

[QUOTE=ugg;606634]Don't ever assume where a player is playing in the reserves is where he's going to play in the seniors, there have been plenty of examples in the recent past that validate this theory. I think as with most of the young Swans midfielders who break into the senior team, at least a part of his time will be spent in the forward line. See Bird, Hannebery and Parker. I think Jack is the only exception in that he started as a tagger instead.QUOTE]
nice point ugg.. I would be interested what role nick Smith played as a junior, was it as onballer?
Cheers

Interestingly, when Keiran first came as a rookie, he played most of his early days in the seconds as a back pocket, small defender. He would burst from the backline with his trademark dash but unfortunately he could spray them. When his fitness improved and his skills skyrocketed in quick time, he soon moved to the midfield and the rest is history.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Smiffy was Captain of his school playing on ball (captaining Cyril who was Swanning around the forward line, of course).....Carey or Xavier or Scotch...yeah Scotch, I think"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Another practice match Friday night 6.30 vs Sydney University at Lakeside. Suspect that Mattner and Smith will get a run in this game.

Set the IQ for the season opener which doesn't start until 8:30 anyway. Get home around 9:30, fast forward thru all the crap and Bwuce gushing over Danger during halftime and I'll almost catch up to real time...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment
