I love the idea of running commentary from a guernsey presentation!

"Membrey steps up to receive his guernsey, looks pleased. Guernsey appears to be the right size, but he's not trying it on."
"Next up is Rhyce Shaw, an experienced campaigner in this field. Receives his guernsey- it appears to be the right size, but he's not trying it on."
"It's the skipper, McVeigh. Oh dear, catastrophe has struck! He's received his guernsey but it looks to be far too large- he's a midfielder, not a ruckman! There's some commotion around the stage as the brains trust tries to work out what to do- it looks like Ireland is trying to convince him to give it a go and try it on, these things cost a lot of money and they've already put the number on the back. He's not having a bar of it. We're going to throw to a break and we'll come back to this fascinating turn of events!"
"Okay, were back- let's take a look at a replay of what's happened. Here's McVeigh, stepping up to receive it and- WOW, JUST TAKE A LOOK AT HIS EYES WHEN HE NOTICES THE SHEER MAGNITUDE OF THE GUERNSEY! WOWEE!"
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                    Horse's speech is here

Adam Spencer gave away a couple of Kieran Jack lines this morning:

Introducing the new players, words to the effect:
"This is blah blah, really strong hands"
"This is bla blah 2, a really strong runner, great left foot kick"
"This is Brandon Jack, not much of a footballer"

And - talking to the parents of the new players, words to the effect:
"Welcome to the club, you are all part of the family now. Any club that can make my dad feel welcome, a man who hated AFL, should find it easy to welcome you"
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Horse's speech was very interesting. To think we had 333 one %'s in the grand final, when the target for most of the year had been 175. That is what I love about this club - its not about one big name, or a few champion players to drag us over the line, its about the team as a whole, about working for your mates and never giving up. Bring on 2013 - I know its going to be another great year!
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

I think there is a hidden message in Horse's speech about the pies at the footy and the failure to improve the quality of them.

People often ask what the secret is, as if you have a formula and success keeps coming once you?ve ticked a few boxes each year, but what we know is that success is never a given, that you are never, ever entitled to it.

You wouldn?t expect our friends at Volkswagen to think they?d made the perfect car in 1938 with the Beetle and then to just keep making the same one every year without improving it and expect it to sell as fast as pies at the footy.

Constant high standards, constant hard work, constant improvement are the only key to success in any field, and football is no different.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I found that a truly startling statistic. We know they worked hard, but when you measure it in that way it makes the win even more meritorious. One for all and all for one indeed!
