    Battle of the Bridge

Thankyou JPK for speaking out about this ridiculous moniker. I am flabbergasted that the powers that be (and I am not sure who these are) seem to have officially adopted this name for the Sydney derby. When Sheedy proposed it more than a year ago, no-one took much notice of the suggestion, which I thought was a very reasonable response to it. I don't know if it is the AFL media department that have now decided it should be used, and if so, whether they have bothered to even look at a map of Sydney to see where the Anzac Bridge even is. But it seems strange to use it if one of the two clubs thinks it is stupid. Unless they don't care.

I love the number of times Josh says "we" in this article. Has definitely bought into our club and its history.

One of the great names for local derbies is the famous games between Liverpool and Everton - The Merseyside Derby. It basically just says what it is and it has grown its own brand on the back of fierce rivalry.

Of course we don't have that rivalry yet with the Giants but that doesn't mean we can't start build the brand of something like The Harbour City Derby (or Sydney Smackdown ).

And I concur. I vote for Sydney Stoush.

I always liked the Sydney Skirmish myself. Although we could just call it the Sydney Showdown. That would get the Crows fans even more riled up!

I think it's more incompetence Prim. If the league is re tipping $100m into GWS you'd think they'd set aside something for marketing. Most likely this has come from the AFL's Melbourne-based agency who thinks the whole world already loves our game.

I don't even think of it as a derby - teams playing derbies absolutely hate each other. I'm not feeling it here....

I wonder why there is an urgent need to come up with a name...?

Why not let it actually become some sort of rivalry first and then, who knows, it might even generate its own, more worthy moniker. Sydney Stoush? You're kidding.... right?

I have been burning the midnight oil and have got my advisors working through the night to come up with a suitable name and I think we may have it. You ready, here it is:

                        Giants v Swans

Genius if I do say so myself.

Was in Sydney Monday Tuesday saw "battle of the bridge" on buses.

Looked lame. Just go with giants vs Swans. Manufactured rivalry never works

                              What a joke.
