Yeah, that is the Spanish pronunciation. I was just observing that if pronouncing an exotic continental name correctly is too difficult for us unwashed colonials, you can usually fall back on the Anglicised version without too much trouble. I don't think the kid is going to have a difficult life.

Not quite, G followed by E or I is pronounced the same as a J or the X in Mexico.

So it's hor-hay. But really the H and R are different to English anyway.

I never got Ali G until someone told me to think of him in the same way as Gary McDonald's Norman Gunston character (which I loved all those years ago). From then on I appreciated Sacha Baron Cohen's piss-takes a great deal.

Sits somewhere between an H and a G, really. Like a guttural sound. Probably close enough to Hor-Gay for the playground. But considering this kid is likely to be 6 foot at 10 years old, not a drama.
