"The former Sydney Swans premiership coach has been approached to take over the fledgling club by AFL heavyweights, who are concerned about the club?s future."

As in , AFL figures associated with Melbourne Football Club ? Or as in , the AFL heirarchy ? I am no socialist , though I do support , of necessity ,the 'socialist' nature of the AFL's financial support and draft pick pecking order for under-performing clubs : it is not like England's soccer league, where ninety-two professional clubs do battle in a Darwinian 'survival of the fittest'. In a smaller , parochial market , that would be disastrous.

Regardless , the governing body should have NO say in who coaches a club. Maybe Jeff Kennett was right when he called Andrew ' Dracula ' Demetriou a 'benign dictator'.

When Demetriou said a few weeks ago that the AFL would offer any assistance needed to MFC , What did he mean ?
"Can we have John Longmire to coach us?"
    "NO!"
"Can we force Ablett , Swan , JPK , ROK , Cloke etc to play for us?"
    "NO !"
"Can we have an extra million added to the salary cap - to give the players an incentive to play better?"
    "NO!"
"But you will give us any help we need , right?"
    "YES ! Of course !"
