    Malceski signs for another year

There you go, my man Melcho:

After six rounds, Malceski leads the competition in rebound 50s (averaging 7.7 a game), is second in kicks (19.3 a game) and equal fifth for bounces (2.7).
And he's just signed on for another year (with knees like his I guess it's one year at a time.)

When I first saw this news, I kind of wondered why it was only a year, given he's still fairly young and in great form; but I think you've probably hit the nail on the head.

Great news, his form so far this year has been outstanding....

His kicking is back to it's accurate best and his tackling has improved immeasurably.

If he keeps it up, he'll again be in the mix for All Australian honours.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

You'd assume the 1 year is purely knees based, but I expect he'll pull in a far prettier penny on say 3 extensions for 1 year in his current form (assuming he can keep it up tc.) than he would on a 3 year contact. He owns the risk and will get the reward, hope it works out for him (because it'll be working out for him!).

For his sake I hope he's only just signed it, coming into free agency and with the way he's started the year he'd be worth a pretty penny right now.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I too was surprised that it was only one year, but he was dropped in the middle of last year. Even Judd is on one year contracts now and he's a similar age.

          Great to have him continuing.

wasnt mal limited well by osborne on sat night

I thought Osborne did a marvellous job at nullifying Mal and hence our delivery from our wing and halfbackline was all but shut down

the hawks did their homework because the passing from Mal the week before was brilliant

just had a quick look at the stats

Mal only had 11 disposals !!!! very good coaching and execution by Osborne and the Hawks

"Mal's Bookends" have passed into the club mythology.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Clarkson is a genius. Who would have thought of trying to nullify one of our best this year. No wonder Jeff Kennett is such a fan of this genius.

I was hoping that John Longmire would have thought of it AL !

against a team as strong as the Hawks you have to have a plan B and for me that meant having Macca play more serious minutes off the HBF and pushing Mal up the ground

Maybe AG, but maybe the coaches deemed weakening one area to strengthen another area wasn't worth it.

My take on it is we played poorly and were outplayed...end of story...we move on. Bring on the Dockers.
