    all white and fuzzy ~

gott say without watching really closely on second efforts I thought Jessie looked the most comfortable for a while playing in Seniors

could he be a late bloomer and level jump Sam Reid in season 2013 ?

People are being real harsh on him, I thought he played pretty well, got some run and carry and did a few good things around the ground. Offered more than Reid has this season (bar the Brisbane game) in my opinion.

I will say that from what I saw, Jesse once or twice did not present well enough and got caught out by Hawthorn's suffocating all-over-the-ground defence. In saying that, a lot of Swans players did that too. But he did ok in the ruck I felt and I don't think he was the worst.

I honestly think he played well, he's improved on his second efforts, contested better and got a couple of good clearances off his own work which was pretty impressive.
Wouldn't put him over Sam Reid though, Reid's only 21 and usually big guys take a while to peak but Jesse showed that he provides good depth for our team, if he wanted a regular game he'd would have to play out of his comfort zone a bit and use his size to blast through opponents more.
He's got good speed for a big man and he's a good kick.
Just really needs to prove himself as a consistent force that he could be.

This makes me laugh. Jesse is not the answer. But neither is reid. Sam has played against five really poor teams and marked almost nothing. Barring one quarter against Brisbane when they put their third tall defender on Sam, he really hasn't looked anything special. My long standing personal gripe that goodes is not and has never been a forward - has also been demonstrated because he is like a witches hat in the forward line if he doesn't mark the ball, and he rarely marks it against quality opponents. Rodney eade had ir right last century - goodes is not a forward and he shouldn't be played there. He is a midfielder and it would be better to use him for 15 mins a quarter in that role than playing him as a forward for the whole quarter.

According to the wise persons on this site the real key for our forwards is not to be beaten in the air and to bring the ball to ground so our fleet of half forward flankers and mids can kick goals.

Like Sam, I don't think Jesse was outmarked by the hawks. Hale beat him in centre square rucks twice at fairly crucial times so I have no doubt that longmire has again marked his cards, but on a balanced assessment of how we are going in there against much weaker teams I don't think he did badly.

The real question continues to be - if we going to bomb it long to forwards who csnt mark it, why do our smalls play so far from the talls ? The second question must be - is Sam better use to us as the third tall defender who can bring the ball out and who almost never gets outmarked ? If anyone has read my posts over the past 6 months they will know that I am increasingly thinking yes. That means there may actually be a spot for Jesse.

I think this is right in part. I watched him repeatedly having to come from behind to spoil lake or gibson.

But some of the delivery was terrible. An example was in the third quarter. Macca had a kick in directly in front of me and kicked to himself and kicked long to Jesse who had two hawks n him. Bizarrely maccas kick favoured the hawks and the middle rather than the boundary line. Jesse and said hawk spoiled each other back into the corridor, picked up by hawk and goal. A kick to the wing wouldn't have been half so damaging and actually would have favoured Jesse.

Anyway I have no doubt that was the last we will see of him. Was his last kick in league footy a goal ?

OMG not another Jesse White thread. Put em all together and they'd outnumber Tippett.

Was at the game. White absolutely NO IMPACT! Slaughtered at the centre bounces and it meant Pyke had to do most of the bullocking work. People are too critical of Reid. He is like a cat when the ball hits the ground and is very quick across the ground. He makes good decisions in a flash. He is a little too UNSELFISH at times. He had an easy snap at the city goal but hand passed to McGlynn who got a terrible bounce as he raced into the goal square.

White played a decent game for a 4th in line Ruck/forward. Got a game because 2 others ahead of him were not available to play. Even if Mummy is not available next week, with Freo's lack of Ruck options, I would play Walsh ahead of White.

I was just putting the cat amongst the pigeons

as I detailed in a post recently Buddy and Reid in their first two seasons kicked the same amount of goals

big difference is the third season ie Reid 2013

Buddy went to 73 goals from memory in his third season 2007 then 100 something in 2008 !

Reidy is heading south.......i love all aspects of his pressure, passing etc but we need him or someone else to take some marks asap !!! then kick goals

just to qualify i dont expect sammy reid to be a buddy but there is no reason why who couldnt go close ie maybe 50 plus goals this year minimum but time is running out in 2013.

Forgive me, but those sentences teamed together are just a tad amusing.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I just think some people need to earn their flouro boots.
And this is not just aimed at Jesse.

I loved seeing him streaking down the field with the ball. He did it twice.
Took a good mark, even though it looked like Benny had overcooked it.

But given the way the ball came into the F50 most times, it gave the forwards little or no chance.
Weren't too many starring on Sat Nite.

I still don't think he has what it takes to make it in the big time. Although I still hold some hope, I think he is running out of chances. Once Tippett is unsuspended, I don't think we'll be seeing #18 for a while.

He actually competed well around the packs as well and was quite a solid contributor in the non-centre based stoppages - he won a few hit outs on the wings. He got criticised by his teammates for a kick into the centre where the ball actually then went to hale who goaled. Having said that I watched ROK do the same thing under much less pressure than jesse. On one of those gallops down the wing he was confronted by two hawks and needed to kick it long - to a forward line of jude and mcglynn. Unsurprisingly the ball was marked uncontested by the hawks.

look I am over this debate, as no doubt the coaches are. But he has never been as bad as people say and has never lived up to what might have been. At the end of the day we got him at pick 70 something and our return from that pick is around 50 games. thats probably better than a lot of comparable picks.

And no-one has answered my question - was his last kick a goal ?
